Parking my Airstream in Studio City, CA

Hello. We are close to buying our first Safari 28 footer. We want to park it in our driveway at home in Studio City. Are there any laws that regulate the parking of trailers on your property in Los Angeles County? Thanks, Bruce

Welcome to the Forums! And good luck with your upcoming purchase!

If you live in a community with a Home Owner's Association you should first check with them. Even if it is OK with the city and the county, it may not be OK with an HOA. If you do not live under the auspices of an HOA, check with the your city and county to get information about any ordinances relative to your situation. Some places have restrictions if you are parking on the street (usually an limit of so many hour... others have restrictions if it is visible from the street. Some have none of these issues.... It varies widely.

TB: thank you for getting back to me! We just live in a regular neighborhood in a single family home. I'm adding to my driveway to accomodate the Safari. I've checked locals codes and there does not seem to be any prohibition against parking an RV or trailer on your property in LA--the concerns are focused on street parking. Thanks again for your help. BTW ... do you know a place where I can find an owner's manual for a used Safari?

Hi,
Do your self a favor and check in person with zoning officials. If your neighbors complain, you will need documentation.

As Herrick said. Check with code Enforcement for your city. I had my trailer parked in my drive for a few days this past summer. Then one day I get a notice for my city stating that I'm out of compliance. What? It's stated a trailer parked in the driveway has to be 15 feet back from the back side of the sidewalk. Now I get at least one or two notices from the city each time we go out. Stupid neighbor

Now I know why I've never liked living in the city. Too many rules.

Bruce, the City of Los Angeles codes are voluminous and it appears that the codes vary depending on the community. The wealthier the community, the more restrictive the parking. You might want to call the City to verify for your area. Good luck getting in touch with a live person who can answer your question.

The most common 'modern' restriction is to control multi-occupancy roommates from parking willy-nilly in the yard; ie, a car, boat or rv have to be on a prepared pad. Sounds like you're onto something in that regard.

Might as well get out in front and contact your local city offices as has been pointed out already.

Hi, you will find out that the city has the rules, not the county. I park mine at home and like someone stated earlier, it must be 15' behind the sidewalk. Previously the rule was that as long as your neighbors didn't complain, it was OK.
