Our Trailer is in!!!

I just got a call from our Airstream dealership and our trailer has arrived from the factory over a month earlier than expected! (Flying Cloud 28 RB) I just had to share my excitement with you guys!

Now I just need to scrounge around and get my money together faster than expected so I can go in and do the paperwork and schedule delivery and demo day.

Should I spend the first night at the dealership as many of you have? Or first night in my driveway at home?

Thanks for sharing the excitement with me!!!

I do have 50 amp power installed at driveway now so it seems I could reasonably test all systems at home?

Depends how far away you live from the dealer. If you stay overnight at the dealership, they should be able to look after any issue you have while you wait.

When you do your walk through prior to purchase check every system. Our dealer did that with us before we signed. FWIW everything worked.

Congrats! Please ask them to check all tanks and plumbing for leaks prior to delivery, by filling tanks and letting sit overnight, and pressurizing fresh water system.

No! Do the walkthru at the dealer and do not be afraid to spend 3-4 hours even if the salesman disappears (as he will). Check as much as you feel you can. It's not the end of your warranty (you have three years!) it's just that once you leave, it might be 6 weeks to get it back in!! You do not have to accept a trailer that has a problem. Just tell them you can come back. They will scramble to get it fixed ASAP.

Oh! By the way, congratulations!!!!!!

Do it at the dealer.
I did mine with a tech, and although he was willing, and I thought I was experienced, I got home and had a million questions.
"Is the water heater on bypass?"
"What doesn't that light light but this one says on?"
"This use/store switch...explain."
And If I did it over I'd take a DVD with me and ask, "Make this play on the TV with sound on the stereo."

What about the hitch?

rkentb,

No offense assuming newbie status? And you just might even be a licensed electrician but are you 100% that the 50A service is wired correctly for the RV power? Several folks have had oops moments when the plug was wired incorrectly.

I've never bought new but I'd want the dealer to demonstrate EVERY system. Period.

Safe travels.

Gary

We stayed at a park within 30 minutes of the dealership. it means that you can check the tires, wheels, suspension and hitch during a short haul. You can check out the other equipment when you hook up. You are close enough to return to the dealer if you find a problem.
I also agree with the suggestion that you double check the 50Amp hookup. Our electrician thought he was hooking up a standard 3-Phase connection rather than an RV connection. We were very lucky that only the Microwave blew up. The electrician paid for that. You will never be happier with your Airstream than the first day you own it. Enjoy.

Spend the night and check every system. Look for leaks in the plumbing. Verify refrigerator and freezer temp and that they change-over to propane when elec is disconnected. If you have Polk Audio system make sure bluetooth pairing works and sub-woofer is connected. Take nothing for granted because once you leave the dealer you may well have a difficult time getting a quick appointment for repairs.

Delivery

We spent two nights at a local park 10 miles from the dealer.

Our 9:00 am delivery had us on a Friday still not sure how or if everything worked. In shock with storms rolling in we were alone in the lot watching the employees leave at 5 and us having to get out.

The truck hitch set up killed valuable time as did about 10 items that needed immediate attention. Like being locked in the bathroom!

It’s a overwhelming experience if your a newbie and we were and are still learning.

Read that owners manual several times it helps

A new trailer and concurrent hurricane watch. You won't forget this!

Hope you and the trailer keep out of harm's way. The trailer is a cozy place to take refuge.

Definitely stay at the dealer - bring the essentials and a bottle of wine and just relax! Also - the most valuable part of the experience was the test tow and learning how to properly back the rig up into a spot perpendicular to the road!

!!

You are set for some fantastic family adventures!

We have been so many places and seen so many things we would NEVER have seen on traditional drive/fly/stay in hotel vacations. We are on a quest to see as many of the National Parks / Landmarks as we can, and have found some great State Parks along the way. So far we have camped in 22 states, and are about to cross over a couple more with a trip to Mesa Verde and Arches NPs.

The pic is of a huge bull elk bugling his herd of cows at dusk at Grand Canyon NP. Our “Sali” is in the background. We stayed 5 nights and it was awesome!

Have fun and be SAFE!
