Silvertwinkie and / or anyone else,

Just to keep my mind clear on this subject. Is the Newer coating that Alcoa is putting on the aluminum sheets prior to shipping to Airstream called 'Plasticoat'? I don't remember seeing any names associated with the new Alcoa coating.

Thanks,

Bob

Plasticoat was what was used before the transfer to the Alcoa pre-coated metal.

Rcaldwell what you have is the Precoated metal from Alcoa.

So if I read this right...I'm was all mixed up.

I was under the impression that pre 1999 models had clearcoat and from 1999 up was plasticoat which was the new Aloca finish......

So what I am seeing now is that clearcoat is not even in the picture around the late 90s, but plasticoat was but from 1999 it went to an Aloca finsh.

As for the current finish, it is added to the Aluminum from Alcoa so when Airestream gets the sheets, it's already on there. My bad seems to be that I was calling the newer Aloca finish plasticoat. Does this sound about right?

So now that it appears that the newer Aloca finishes also peel, I guess my next question would be what the vintage folks have known for years.....except it's a new coach..... if the Aloca finish peels as has been suggested here, and you have to strip it, can it then look like some of the vintage units that look like mirrors?

'Twinkie,

Not sure if will come out as "bright" as a earlier model, but Inland RV has a picture of a later model 34' polished triple that I'd be proud to own!

Here's the link: http://www.inlandrv.com/polishing/

Tripp

BTW, when are you going to change the gears on your guy? I am disappointed each time I don't see a 4th gear scratch!

Cool, thanks for the link......as for the little guy, you just assume he's in third.....when in reality....he's skipped 3rd completely and still catches screams going into 4th!

Porky,
I was at the RV show this weekend and talking with Glen. He mentioned he had a 30' Classic to prep for delivery on Monday. I said "isn't it a 34' Classic SO" and he said "oh, yea it's a 34' foot". I told him I knew whose it was and he was dying to pick it up last week but couldn't because of the show. i told Glen he'd better do it first thing Monday morning and he said he would. So he knows your eager and coming...

BTW, I couldn't stand it when looking at the show and traded up for 30' Classic SO. It's on order from factory. Now it's my turn to wait.

Thanks Big Dee .. and congrats on ordering a new Classic ... way to go! What's the lead time now?

Petunia & I are pretty pooped .. been getting ready all day for the early morning journey to Los Banos.

I think we have everything ... but I'm sure we'll forget something.

Made reservations at Casa de Fruta .. so we can just haul it up the pass, relax and check everything out.

Also .. a big thanks to everyone for the kind words and encouragement ... gotta get up at 4 AM .. so we're off to bed.

Porky -- I know you've been looking forward to this. So much that you must have the fever bad! Some of us have gone across half the country to pull our trailers home. But nobody is going to pack as many peanut butter sandwiches as you will. (AND you will greatly exceed GCWR with this strategy!)

Somebody tell this deluded Airstream seeker that Los Banos is not in California...
