Order timeline - new CCD

Does anyone know the days for delivery on a new CCD? My local dealer reports 6 - 8 weeks and improving. True? False?

Actually, I think that that figure is fairly conservitive given the order load going on now. My guess is 8-10 unless they have gotten through the bulk of the orders from that RV show they were at that they got tons of orders from....

Best to call or email the factory if you have any indication the dealer might be guesstimating.

I was told by an Airstream rep at the local RV show, that there is a industry wide shortage of RV stoves. Apparently there are 2 companies in the US producing components and one recently shut down to relocate. The supply has not kept up with demand and according to the rep. Airstream has completed trailers sitting on the lot outside the plant, waiting for stoves.

Trailer production is 30 units a week at this time. But if you have no stove, it sits on the lot.

Hey, I got my stove and it has a corian cover. Awesome Classic! Mine started and ended the production line on time and with a stove. Maybe I was lucky as my unit had a guardian angel at the factory following it through the line with a camera. I doubt this unit was going to experience any delay problems under his eye. It certainly hasn't ANY quality problems. After four days of shakedown, not one quality problem. Not a one. Nada. The factory's in a grove right now so order one NOW!

I just ordered a 30' foot Classic last week and was told it is scheduled for the end of April. I was left with the impression that other models are scheduled farther out than that.

We ordered our CCD last week and were told roughly 2 1/2 - 3 months! They are really busy at Jackson Center.

When we went to pickup our Safari in December, we took the factory tour. There they told us that we were lucky we ordered ours when we did, as anyone that placed an order after I believe the last day of October, was most likely going to be close to getting an '05 that were that backlogged with orders.

I think they start to trickle out between late April and mid May depending on a few factors (materials, training, etc).....

Local NM dealer just called AS and was told that a new unit (CCD) ordered today will ship in the first or second week of MAY.

Was also told that the '05's would start arriving as early as July.

....and supposedly along with the new model year comes a 5% price increase. Can not confirm this though.

'05s will be out earlier than July. A particular dealer may not see his until then, dependent upon when he placed his order. We had an '04 Classic at last year's Midwest Forums rally which was held the second weekend of June. My 01' Safari was built in mid April of '01 and was one of the last '01's on the line.

Agreed. Model year changes in late April/mid May, so that would make sense if the unit had to travel far west.....

Here are several things I've learned recently...

1) A dealer can change an AS "in-process" coach order by a certain cut-off date.

Say you want a 22' CCD with the entertainment and awning packages but can't find a TT configured this way on any lot. If you can find a dealer with a 22' CCD order that is "in-process", he/she can change one of his/her coach orders to add your accessories if it is done by a certain date (the dealer will call AS to determine the date).

2) If you commit to buy before the dealer takes delivery of a coach from AS, you can negotiate a better price. I've found, on a 22' CCD, that I can get close to $2K shaved off their best "on-lot" offer if I am willing to take a coach yet to be delivered. I'm sure this has to do with their flooring costs, etc. Once a coach hits their lot, the cost goes up. In this case, it is always close to $2,000.

3) I spoke to AS on 2/24/04 and they report that it is running 10 - 12 weeks to produce a 22' CCD from date of order. By using the methods, above, you can reduce that to 4 - 6 weeks depending on when your dealer ordered and still get the options you desire while getting a better price...

Food for thought...

...and another thing...

It took AS Two weeks to construct our Safari...from first rivet to out the door.

I would assume any options they have parts on hand for would not be a huge problem -- anything that needs a lead time might cause them to scramble, and they might be resistant to that, being how hard they are cranking...

When they start riveting the shell is probably a week or so too late...

You have to be proactive -- contacting the mothership in JC for questions like this bear fruit much quicker than working through your sales-droid...

When we ordered ours, AS predicted the production start date within 3 days...
