OK - So Now it's REALLY Killin' Me!!!

I started an earlier thread about anxiously waiting and getting ready to order. Well, the check came in from my broker (selling off some stock while it's still worth something) and the financing has been approved. So... I signed the purchase order and gave the dealer a deposit and as of this afternoon our new 28 ft Safari SE is FINALLY & OFFICIALLY ON ORDER!!!!

Now the wait is REALLY gonna be killin' me!!! The next 4 to 6 weeks are going to be painful! Will I get any sleep tonight?? Probably not!

To recap:
28 ft Safari SE
Midnight sun
15K BTU HVAC upgrade
2nd ceiling exhaust fan
Solar inverter
23" TV with audio upgrade (and Sirius radio)
Outside speaker
+ a couple of other things that I can't remember right now.

Anyhow... we're ready!

Nope, I wouldn't be sleeping either. Congratulations, your OFFICIAL!

BTW, nice interior choice, I like the Midnight Sun color scheme.

Steady on, ol' man. It'll come about.

And you're gonna LOVE that Sirius radio in the 'Stream.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Congrats on the new Airstream in process. Be sure to keep us posted on its progress.

By the way, what is the "storage slide out" option that you listed. I'm not familiar with that.

On the 28" Safari, the queen bed is centered in the rear of the trailer. Instead of an exterior flip down access door leading to a small storage compartment that is under the bed, there is a slide out for storage. It's supposed to offer more storage and easier access. Now, I haven't actually seen it, but that's how it was explained to me. I'll post some pictures of it.

the "slide out" is a typical rv slide tray mounted INSIDE the normal under bed rear storage compartment...

that compartment under a rear queen is sometimes called the trunk...

the slide tray takes up space and adds weight, and REDUCES the available storage space significantly...

you really have to see it in a unit to understand this and how it's a poor solution to a non existent problem...

i measured the tray bits inside a unit, but don't have the data at hand, it reduces storage height about 4-5 inches...

so any tubs or containers or STUFF stored back there will need to be SHORTER that if no tray is used....

and using the curves side/corner spaces becomes tricker too, because of the slide tracks...

while the back door height is only about 11-12 inches the space is taller than the door...

so 'stacking stuff is possible WITHOUT a tray. also the roller bearing sides and support take up useable space.

the slide does make getting to stuff in the back reaches a little easier, but not much.

besides the way-back stuff is best accessed from inside and lifting the bed.

cheers

Sleep now while you can. Pretty soon you'll realize that you don't own an AS, it owns you. And, they can be demanding.

hmmmm... I guess my first question would be an obvious one... why do they even offer it?

If it reduces storage, then I don't think I want it.

2air, do you know if there are any pics of it anywhere? I wouldn't be too concerned about losing some height if there was added depth - but - if all they are doing is adding a roller pan and the trunk size is the same with or without - then I don't want it!

I think I might want to call my dealer and ask some questions.

Thanks 2air - I appreciate the information.

I agree with 2air'...I only ordered one of these units for stock and that was over 1 year ago and I have not ordered another one sinc, simply because it takes up space in my opinion.

For what it's worth...

Well - it is worth a lot. I agree with both of you. I just got off the phone with my dealer and we're going to amend the order to pull it out.

I don't have any problem bending and reaching so I really don't need it. Besides - it will save me a few hundred dollars and some added weight.

Thanks for the info
