Now, I'm mad!

Just received my charge card bill and, guess what, Airstream has never refunded my $175 for the Homecoming. I called and (politely) ask that my money should be refunded because I have no idea whether I will be able to make the "if and whenever it happens to be" spring homecoming.

Someone will get an ear full Monday for sure!

Call the credit card company and dispute the charge. Let Airstream explain how it is right.

Too late now

I paid the charge on the last bill before the big cancellation.

I would still contact the card company, I think you have 90 days.

If you place a purchase on a VISA or Mastercard you have up to two years to dispute or charge the purchase back to the seller. You need to have grounds, I would think cancellation of the event would qualify. This is why I normally place all repair work on my vehicles on a major card. That way if I need to I have recours. If you use your debit card/matstercard the rules are different.

I agree, as a mail order business, I know people have far more rights than merchants do when it comes to credit cards. Cancellation of an event would certainly qualify as a reason to dispute a charge. Believe me, you say the word and they'll yank it out of AS's account so fast they won't even know what happened. I know the only way we have gotten a charge that was disputed back was by getting the customer to ok it again. Otherwise the merchants pretty much can't do anything about it unless they have things like signed paperwork proving whatever was paid for was delivered to the cardholder.

you need to read the post where i was getting kicked around. i ranted and raved and called an said a lot of unkind words and didnt get squat. dont even talk to linda , waste of time. call and ask for "andrea" and she will take care of it. i dont think they plan to give refunds unless you ask for one. they assume you will roll the money over to the next rally. i dont know this thing was the biggest pile of s#** i ever steped into. and ill stop at that . lol

you must ask for a refund before you can dispute it. then they can take 30 days to post one . after thirty days the credit card company will deduct it out of their credit card payments account . this came from my credit card company. you must provide the date the refund was requested and to who you made the request . lol

I did ask for a refund immediately when the event was cancelled. Reread my first post in this thread.

I agree, either Andrea or Vicki seem very helpful. I'd deal with them.

Late news

The dates for the 2004 Homecoming have been announced; Wed., June 2 through Sun., June 6.

Turns out that these dates will work for me I'll visit my brothers in PA prior and then go on up to Michigan after to meet my wife and go on to tour the UP after our visit with her sisters.

I'm still miffed at the handling of this thing, but I really want to attend. I will call them Monday and ask that my money be applied toward the 2004 event.

It's certainly your decision.

If it was my money, I'd insist on the refund and sign up again next year. The only reason I'd let them keep my money for the better part of a year is if they offer a special deal to those who were signed up for this year and stayed signed up.

If they haven't made the refund and I let it ride, it is worth $50 off next year's event. That is pretty good interest! If, in fact, they have made the refund already, just late,, I'll wait till later to re-up.

All set up for June

I called the credit card company this morning ... no refund yet. Then I called Andrea and, sure enough, she hadn't processed my refund yet. She said she had a "pile" of refunds on her desk to still be processed.

I went ahead and rolled over my money to next spring's event. She will process a refund for the $50 for leaving the money ride. Not bad interest for $125 for 7 months.

It's a heck of a way to run a railroad, but maybe it will all work out in the end.

I will go to see my brothers before the event and then meet my wife in Milam, MI afterwards. We will visit her sisters for a couple of days and then tour the Michigan UP before returning home.

Disputing the charge on your credit card: I have heard that the merchant is penalized an additional amount for disputed charges. For example, if you sell someone a muffler bearing for $100 via the credit card, and they dispute it, you get charged back -- say -- $105.

My guess is that if you contact someone with a brain at Airstream and explain that unless you receive your refund by such and such a date it will be disputed, you'll get some action.
