I have been thinking about assateague island for a similar time frame. Never been there before though.

If you are in PA, and want to stay close by, I highly recommend Ricketts Glen State Park. Awesome campground very close to the water, and just a spectacular trail that takes you past dozens of named waterfalls in just a days hike.

We are headed to Coobscook State Park this weekend, and hope to get at least one or two more weekends before the season ends.

We are on Assateague now. It's one of our favorite places.

There are two campgrounds on the Maryland side of the island, one state and the other national. The national park is by far the better of the two, but it's picnicking only. On the other hand, for the price of no hookups you can enjoy a campsite on the dunes. Note: during mating season, wild stallions have been known to kick polished Airstreams.

You'd love Promised Land State Park, near Greentown, east of Scranton. Lake, leaves, friendly, historic.

We just left Promised Land State Park, and would recommend it. Full service, big sites, quiet, nice views. We are heading to Acadia ME over the next month, and trying to stay at many of the State Parks.

What about Penn Woods? Airstream only.

Penn Woods is on our list for next year....unfortunately noted CG closes 10/11/14
and we'll be on west coast via "air route" first two weeks October.

We are considering Gettysburg National Park visit to honor our heroes present & past.
Despite our adventures & escapes this summer to mountains, lakes & shores....basically on "FCloud9"...we really thoroughly enjoyed our first summer on cloud nine.
Away life is so alive and peaceful in the Flying Cloud, one drifts far from global issues.
After listening to few nightly new broadcasts, reality slaps you awake.
There seem to be several options for airstreaming nearby...and after all, need to pack
in a few more nights camping before the dreaded "winterizing" for the first time.
Not so worried about actual process but packing to get away is much more fun.
