No Airstreams!!

Not one!

Drove all the way from south Alberta to pick up my new to me 29ft Excella in Olympia Washington near Seattle.Down hwy #2 to Spokane #80 over the mountains to #5 on the coast and down to Olympia.

Retraced same route home and over the entire trip did not see one Airsteam among the thousands of SOB's on the road.

Is everyone staying home this year?

Apparently the numbers attending the rally at the Lacey WA Airstream Harbour was down this year too.

Don't worry

It seems to me that Airstream sightings come in packs. After a long drought, I saw six on a 50 mile interstate trip (not all going in the same direction). Someone was on the move!

What % of total trailer sales does AS account for? I don't see any at the campground we go to regularly and don't see many on the road either. Most of the time we're quite surprised when we spot aluminum going down the road.

We are certainly a minority. Lots and lots of SOB's on the road.

I see 10-15 every day!

But then I drive past an Airstream Dealer on the way to work

I usually see one or two a week on the roads around here, especially I-75.

We returned last Saturday from an 11 day trip to Colorado. Saw only 6 in 1500 miles. While that's not many, it sure makes those we do see extra exciting. Simple pleasures, huh?

During this year's trip from FL to OR in June, I noticed a very definite absence of RVs of ANY type on the roads. I usually see no more than 10 silver twinkies on the trip, but this year saw only 3.

Plus, most of the RV parks were not even close to being full.

Another consequence of higher fuel prices..................

Just the one Airstream

They say a broken watch is right twice a day! For 40 plus years the only time I saw an Airstream was in a barn alongside Motorway 3!

Aluminitis is CATCHING

When I bought my first Airstream in 2005 there was one other rather ratty old one at my home campground. I got into one of the choicest spots on the whole campground (a corner pullthrough - one of two on the camp) and had many, many lookie-louie's.

As a proud new owner of a spanking new 22 CCD I was glad to show it to anyone who asked. The usual reaction to the interior aluminum - "ooooh.. followed by a stunned silence... followed by their hands gently reaching up and stroking the ceiling." 2/3 of the people looking were surprised to know they were still being made and I think I showed it to about 50 people in the first three weekends.

The good news? Three years later there are usually 3 or 4 on site at all times as well as one Avion. There are eight members who have them in total.

Want to see more Airstreams? Just tempt people.

Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present.

Airstream sightings

I saw at least 7 different AS during the 2300 miles I spent driving to Yellowstone and back, including a 25 SS Safari parked across the street from me in the campground, which inspired my wife to suggest that we needed a larger trailer. I'm picking up the new one on Monday.
I did notice that very few people waved as we passed each other, which was unusual in my limited experience (only nine months of ownership). On the other hand, the owner from AZ at the campground was incredibly helpful and happily showed me around his trailer. he even let me borrow his generator for several hours when mine wasn't working.

Here on the east coast seeing an Airstream is a rare event. Last time we were out we saw one. It had big red numbers and we waved and honked and thumbs upped each other. Unfortunately, he got off after a one mile caravan together. We generally never see any during the whole trip, not one, but then when we get there...
