Newbie Needs Info...
Hello! I am going to acquire my father's 1963 27 footer but we don't know the model name. Can you point me in the right direction on where to look for information?
Thanks!!
Dan

If it's 27' it's probably really either an Overlander (26') or an Ambassador (28'). The best place to help identify older trailers can be found at
Vintage Airstream Archives
Congratulations on your soon to be acquistiton!

Curious, did you measure from the ball to the end of the trailer?

Shari, I followed your link. I am thinking it must be the Overlander, it changed to 27' in 1969, so that may be where the confusion lies. Now all I have to worry about is moving it from Vancouver, BC to Charlotte, NC (actually that may be the fun part - "breaking it in").
Thanks

Sounds like a major "Road Trip"!
Just be sure the tires, brakes, wheel bearings, etc. are in good shape before you set out...happy trails!

Measure from front of ball coupling to the end of rear bumper.

He seems to think that the trailer is 24' and the tongue is 3' (he is on Vancouver Island and the trailer is on the mainland in Vancouver). It does have a single axle so I assume it is a TradeWind.
Thanks for all the great info and advice!!

Hi Dan,
Tradwinds were 24ft in 1963, bumper to tip of tongue. Maybe it's 24ft total?
I think all bigger trailers in '63 were dual axle, no?

Well, it is a single axle, so we're thinking it's a 24' Tradewind. He is going over to the main land in a few weeks to retrieve it - hopefully we'll find out then. Thanks for the info!

There is a serial number on a plate that is near the entrance door. If you list that number, I will be glad to identify it for you.
We have the original list of serial numbers from Airstream for those early years.

Serial Number?
I just bought a '65 Globetrotter. The seller wasn't sure if it actually is a '65, but may be off by a year or so.
What is different from any of the other trailers around that age is that it has clear bullet back up lights. I haven't seen that on any other '65's, but I haven't seen that many.
Serial number is: S020S5586
Any ideas???? I'm new at this, but I *think* I posted a picture of it.

Diana. You have a 1965 20 foot Airstream. That style backup light was used from 1964 to 1968. We have them should you need them.

Thanks, Andy!
I'm in San Diego, so I'm sure you'll see me sooner or later!
I hope these lights will be around for a while. they have aged to a nice light violet color!
