Happy fourth of July.
I have been lurking on this site for a month so, then in moment or two of irrational thought bought a 1982 34 foot limited edition site unseen (except for pictures) in Montana. Leaving Minnesota next Thursday to pick it up. Thanks to this forum, knew some questions to ask the owners,a nd got all the right answers.
I have a class 8 Volvo VNL 610, so weight of the airstream is not an issue. There is a picture of my rig on (pictures - chuckd)
www.truckconversion.net. geof and Don E from Texas of this forum are also on that forum.
The tow vehicle has a small diesel powered alternator that is used to charge 4 8D batteries, the output of the batteries goes to a prosine 3kw inverter, which I can power the trailer with. The goodies to monitor the battery etc are all ample power devices. I also replaced the stock alternator with a 275 amp hours alternator with an external "smart" regulator to provide a rapid charge to the batteries. Before anyone has a panic attack the batteries are AGM batteries and they can take a very fast charge rate.
I have 820 amphours of battery power in the house bank and an additonal 410 amp hours in the starter bank. Not suggesting anyone else to what I did, it is just what I did.
Looking forward to getting the trailer and living aboard for awhile before trying to put in a small home theater, and converting from two single beds to the largest single I can fit in the bed room.
Thanks again for this site, and as one whose son is in Iraq, this day has special meaning.
