New "oldbie"

I am sure not a newbie, being one of the original 5 members here, but I am new to the trailer side having sold the 82 Motorhome.
Still in a bit of shock over that!! But things have moved along quickly and I now own a 97 F 250 Diesel longbed 4x4 and a 1978 International Sovereign 31 rear bedroom. Its a one owner in great shape!
Looking forward to lots more good times, and fun redo projects on the trailer, and driving the truck the first day has been a blast. I am used to my Saturn or driving the big moho. This truck is a beasty boy...lots of power and good noises.
Thanks to those like Wahoonc and others, who coached me on the truck purchase. Thanks to Robert77 for his help finding this trailer.

right now its in the cleaning process. It was closed up a few months in storage and needs that musty stuff cleared out. The po painted the walls and cabinets, we will likely redo in a zolatone like scheme.
Furniture is in good shape, and the a/c, furnace, water pump, refridge, and such are new to this rig.

Alan, Just found your post. Congradulations. I have a extended cab'95 F-150 that I am about to sell that has over 181K miles on it with a gas engine and still going strong. You will like the extended cab and I will imagine the desiel engine.

It will take a little getting used to the length of the trailer...trust me on that one, but you will in no time. Hope to see you some time down the road. We have decided to go to FDR for Labor Day by the way if you are still intereste in meeting up there. Take care and happy camping.

Tom

Thanks! If I can get it together we just might do that, Fdr was great.
I have cleaned inside three times top to bottom with a number of agents, strted with Orange cleaner, then Greased Lightnin', then Super Clean. Scrubbed the floors with Awesome, and have sealed a small rot spot with Minwax wood hardener and also used it around the edges where leaks might happen.
I painted over the crappy beige the po used on the cabinets and trim, with a light cream and blue small speckled paint, three coats it looks good now, and I will next seal it with clear when it dries. Shannon has made burgundy pad covers for the bedroom wall pads, and we will have matching curtains in there too.
Next we will do the flooring in laminate most likely , as I used cork last time and love it, but it is hard to get affordably within our budget for this job.
The F250 runs great and only suffers from a small oil drip, I think is the drain plug, so I got a new one and new crush washer.
All in all I am back in the project mode big time, but not as big as many others here.....the outside of the trailer will have to wait until later to get stripped and cleaned up of faded clearcoat.

I hope it will come together! A lot of hours so far but enjoying seeing the improvement.
A name? Might have to do that as our 280 did not have one ( made it easier to part with maybe).

Alan, as I remember your driveway I was looking at the tail end of the new trailer and wonder if you had to drop the tonge to back it over the curb? Glad that you got the extra muscle of the diesel.
That long bed should take about as much room to turn around as the 280 did! What's the new combined length?
Can't wait to see it on the road!

gimme 20 acres and I'll turn this rig around......

guess the 31' plus the 8' bed, plus the rest of the truck should be about yea long......versus the 28' Moho and the tow set up 3' and the car behind it....
a challenge either way.

On our 4th of July trip to Ft. Wilderness we took a side trip off of the interstate and I used a 40 acre corn field to turn around in. Actually it was a soy bean field in Unadilla and I impressed myself by backing into an access path that ran along the side of the field and I didn't get off the double tire track path with the trailer tires!

I know my truck is just shy of 20' long because my garage is 20' deep and my garage door just closes behind the back bumper with the front bumper just about to touch the back wall. Add that to the 30' of the Airstream and you have 50' in length.

ok this warrants a short story.....we took the 280 Moho up to the GA mountains looking for an off road riding trail for the "off roading" go kart my son Jason won at a fair.
Towed it on a flat trailer.
The directions told us to turn on some small dirt road and proceed to the trails. Well once in there we found ourselves trapped in a long driveway, with a big chained up Rotweiler ahead, and three or four cars up on blocks beside us...a southern rebel flag flying, and no one around.....way too tight to turn the moho around, with the go kart trailer on the back....
Shan and I got out and carefully avoiding the chained up firebreather, unhooked the trailer so I could back in around the car carcasses, and turn around. Then we re-hooked it and beat it out of there.
Of course we forgot to lock the trailer down and it jumped off the ball on the way out! Luckily no problem and the chains held it from going anywhere.
Phew! Thought I had gone to redneck heaven on that little side trip.

Wow! My biggest fear is that I'm going to forget to lock the latch down on the ball and find my trailer tongue dragging behind me coming out of my driveway. I always cross the chains under the tongue just in case.

I'm glad you found your way back from redneck heaven and didn't go to the light!
