Years ago, we used to camp outside of Sunspot going out towards Timberon in a place called Danely (sp?) Canyon. Then, we had a pop-up that could pass on the white-knuckle roads. From our spot, we could look out over Alamogordo & White Sands... boondockin' all the way and nary another soul for over two weeks... sure was nice... going up the mountain to Cloudcroft then on to Sunspot sure was beautiful...

Not in it for the money, brother. Just offering up another nice very quiet remote site to chill for awhile -- for free!

Jaxon: We love that part of NM! There's some nice public sites down that way also, near interesting petroglyphs. Used to take our pop-up down there back in the late '80s. NICE!

That's our idea of getting away from it all and our preferred style of camping. We can last one week on our tanks and now we have a good solar setup. I wish more big land owners would open up these open spaces because we'd gladly pay. This style of boondocking is very appealing to us.

It doesn't seem like there would be much money to be made, but it is income nevertheless if you're going to own the property anyway.

It would be nice if you did not rule out short stays. Some of us are looking for a space like that for a stop over on our way to Albuquerque traversing from I-20 to I-40. It sounds like it is far enough from the main highway to keep noise to a minimum. Recommend you keep the price down to $15/night to include E/W and use of the dump site. I like the idea of cable if there is no tv reception in the area, otherwise not really necessary.

Remote camping sound really great and would be worth driving down a non paved road to get to because there would be no highway noise to interfere with the solitude. As far as having a cable hookup, why does someone want to bring along all the distractions from the outside world? The reason we go camping is to get away from the rat race and all the commotion from back home. After all, the news broadcasts on TV are all about war, crime and generally things that make one unhappy and agitated.
