New AS on order - 2014 FC

We have 2014 FC 27FB twin on order and should be completed end of February or start of March. I have these on order, besides the standard options:

- Window awning
- 2nd A/C with 50A service
- Inverter
- Black Ultraleather
- Golden Night decor

I'm debating if we should add Eddie Bauer Tire upgrade to our order or save it until after the sale. Anything else that I should be considering. I have a couple of days left to decide before my order goes into production.

Any input will be helpful and greatly appreciated!

If you're only debating WHEN to get the tires, and not debating IF you'll get the tires, then go ahead and include it in the purchase. You don't gain anything by waiting.

Solar is probably a good option to consider as well, even if you don't plan to boondock; it will help keep the batteries charged in between trips.

What does the upgrade to the 16" wheels/tires cost if you get the factory to do it now? Is it an incremental cost?

I'm currently waiting for my dealer to come back to me with the cost of the 16" tires upgrade. I'll let you know when I have the information. I hope it is not too much more than if I do it separately and resell the wheels.

Thought about solar option, but I think I would install it later as I will plug it up when parked and we are not planning on boondocking that much, if at all, for a while. I'm trying to best customize my trailer where options may be more expensive, or impossible, to add after delivery, and without running up the purchase cost too much.

If you aren't convinced you will be doing a significant amount of boondocking, take a look at a couple of Honda 2000 series lunch box generators vs. the cost of the solar. You can use the generators elsewhere as well. They are light weight, fuel efficient, can be run on an extended run fuel tank, and work very well.

cost of the upgrade for me was 1800 bucks....I know someone else that got quoted at 1700 bucks per a phone conversation while he was price searching....

My dealer initially told me 2k....they came down to 1800....

for whatever that is worth.

The dealer came back with the quote: EB tire and wheel upgrade is $2400. I'll go with DIY upgrade route on this one.

I'll add solar panels through reputable solar company, perhaps AM Solar, in a couple of years.

Is there a way for me to track or check in the progress of my trailer?

Yes, the Eddie Bauer Sendel 16" Michelin MS/2 upgrade DIY with a SamsClub Michelin discount on the tires cost me $1300 plus a spare and wheel. I did not purchase a Michelin/Sendel spare ($120) but the tire was on sale too. The wheel looked very similar to the one I removed from the carrier.

The wheel cost is absurd!

I have about $2,150 in my five Michelin LT225/75R16/E LTX M/S2 mounted on four of the five SenDel T03-066655T wheels and one on a SenDel S62-66655G galvanized steel wheel and all with a Dill 1506-453 TPMS and Centramatic wheel balancers.

I will recover some costs when I sell the OEM wheels and tires. That cost recovery is not available when the factory does the job, they keep the takeoffs with no credit for them.

Call the factory and Schmooz! Look if I ordered four 15 inch wheels and Marathons ... OK, you're keeping those.... so it's reasonable for you to charge the DIFFERENCE and a reasonable profit... now really can't you do better?

When I did the 16 inch upgrade on my now gone Safari I spent close to 2K, including shipping for the wheels and tires - but I found a local shop later (of course) that would have done everything including balancing and mounting for about $1500. (back in 2012). The internet is NOT always the least expensive source of stuff especially when LTL freight is added in. My alternate source - a custom car / car restoration shop that buys hundreds of tires and wheels every year. Volume discounts kiddies. Of course he's a customer of ours... and if I had the sense God gave a duck I'd have asked him, and he'd have special ordered the stuff and sold it to me at cost. D'oh!

It should be though. They keep 5 new wheels and tires and give you zero credit for them??? Plus over charge you at least $400 for the 16s! That's great value and high regard for the customer isn't it?

Or is it the dealer driving this boat on this great deal?

At least I know it wasn't my dealer -- he strongly recommended against this option and explained that AS keeps the 15's at my cost -- I asked anyway and got the sticker shock.

Go with Protagonist's suggestions; we agree wholeheartedly.
(Oh, yes, we also have two Honda EU2000i gens and an EU3000is in addition to the Solar ...depending upon where we are going)
