Well, with the help of a friend we got the Caravel home today. It rained on us and my eyes were glued to the mirrors the whole time, afraid something would happen to it, but it was all just fine.
Strange thing is, when I got to their house and had a closer look at it, I like it even more than the day we saw it and agreed to buy it. It is so nice, the cushions are redone, the drapes are new, other than a few chips on the wood here and there, I can't find much of anything wrong with it. It's beautiful.
The folks we bought it from are so nice. They were a big help, even rewired the trailer wiring so it had the right plug for our friend's truck. They gave us a brochure about the WBCC and told us to be sure and join and that they hoped to see us at some ralleys soon. After five months of searching, I don't think I could have bought a nicer trailer from nicer people.
So to see pictures of our new treasure, click on my photo button below and let me know what you think. I think I'm going to go outside and sit in it for a while now :-)
Not very often they come in good shape like that. No wonder you want to go out & just sit in it. Lots of good years ahead. Thanks for sharing the pics.
Best,
Well, I can't see any reason not to share what I spent on it - it cost $6k. That's what he was asking, and I saw no reason to haggle. It was $500 more than a nice argosy I was looking into buying, and I thought it was a very good deal for a vintage trailer, with all that beautiful wood inside, all the original goodies, and polished outside, ready to go camping in. From what I've seen them going for on eBay, and what people ask on the classified, I just think it was a very fair price. Not the steal of the century or anything, but a price that was fair for both or us.
That's kind of how I do things, I usually won't even look into something unless the price at least seems fair to start with, and then haggle it down to make up for stuff that's broken or missing. This time, I jsut couldn't find any reasons to haggle. It's a much nicer trailer than I thought I would end up with.
Congratulations on the find! I am sure that you will get many thousands of miles of pleasure from the Caravel. You couldn't have restored an average coach to the conditon of the one you found for the amount of money involved - - especially if you factor in much labor from professional sources.
Enjoy your new acquisition!
Kevin

WOW! It looks great!
I can't wait till we can get the 59 into simular condition. I think it was well worth the price after seeing the condition. I have several thousand to spend on ours before it's even close to what you have. Great find.

She's a beauty! And I'm so jealous of that dinette. I really want to add one to mine. I think it's a great price - if you're happy with it that's all that matters.
Stephanie-
You should be very happy about the trailer and the price.
Mine is in similar condition but not polished. (One new
appliance and everything else in excellent cond.)
I paid a few thousand more and then had to pay $1000
to tow it from Virginia to New Orleans!
I still consider myself luckey.
Congratulations, it's beautiful.Love that shine!!!
Step---Just wanted to say that I agree on how you came to a fair price. I've always only been concerned on how I view pricing. If I'm satisified with the deal, then I could care less what others may think. YOU GOT A GOOD DEAL & I'm happy for you. Many happy miles.
