My first vintage airstream and first problem

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and to the world of Airstream.
I just got my first Airstream yesterday. 1966 28' Ambassador International
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3ARTQ%3AUS%3A1

I spent most of last night testing things out and so far i'm very pleased.
One problem I have found is that the shut off valve on the waste water tank
does not seal well. A slight trickle of water still comes out the pipe even with
the valve closed. If anyone has any advice on how to fix/repair/replace this
valve I would sure appreciate it. I'm anxious to take her on a short camping
trip ASAP but can't do that until I stop the waste water leak. I would't mine
replacing the valve if there is a place I could order such a part.
I'm about to go out and see if I can reach up into the valve with a toothbrush(not mine) and try to clean the spot where the valve seals.

Thanks

Hey, welcome aboard. That airstream looks pretty nice. I see from the ebay photos that there is already some Nuvite polish that came with it. Now there's a job if your up to it, I just started polishing mine. It'll make that thing shine like a new penny. Hope you have tons of fun with it.

Hi - use the search tool and look for dump valve or valve repair or just look at the plumbing forum. We ended up replacing our valves rather then repairing - it seemed easier. Parts are available in several places including camping world - online. Leaking black water is not even a little cool.

Welcome.

There is a strong possibility you have the same Thetford valve as I do.

Feel free to check my website (link in my signature) for insight into how to rebuild the valve. Also feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.

As you get used to this forum, you will find that posting pictures helps tremendously in solving specific problems.
