Munising and Mackinaw Island MI 2004

Here are some great shots of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore between Munising and Grand Marais MI. Additionally, after this trip, we hooked up with the summer Midwest Rally folks near Mackinaw Island last summer (pics also included)!

....and yes, we took the Safari down those enter at your own risk roads and did it without a single scratch or rock dent (good mudflaps!).

Enjoy!

The last dark pics were night shots of the bridge...though they did come out, the translation did get lost somehow, so blow those last few off on the last page that are black with specs of light.

I posted two links in two different threads, but after I first posted them back last summer, my server went south, so at any rate, enjoy!

Twink,
Is that the Grand Hotel? My wife wants to go ther because of "Somewhere in Time". The island has no cars, correct?

It is the Grand Hotel...the only hotel I know of that is a 5 star hotel and the parking lot is a bunch of bike racks.

There are only 2 or 3 emergancy vehicles, but from what I gathered, they are rarely used....there is otherwise no vehicular traffic unless it's powered by a living creature.

All in all, the island is kind of touristy, but it really is a neat place. I would go again.....one word though, if you like fudge and/or chocolate, it is literally sold EVERYWHERE on the island!

Since I lived there driving horses for a summer, I should point out that it is Mackinac Island, but the nearby town is Mackinaw City.

The island has no cars, save a few emergency vehicles. Even UPS delivers on horse drawn flat bed dreys.

Too bad I don't have edit privs.

You are right on about UPS delivering via horse...there is a pic on the site, but here is a direct link to it. I got a big kick out of seeing that! What was even more amazing was to see the team of horses backup a loaded trailer to a building for deliveries.

Yep. Twink took these pictures at the Midwest Forums Rally that we did at Mackinac City in 2004. We were on the horse drawn carriage when he took these pictures. No cars allowed except for a fire truck, ambulance and police.
