"Most everyone must have went camping"
You can tell when most everyone goes camping; the activity on this board really slows down!

Hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend!

I was just wondering how many went camping on this Holiday weekend? The forums seem to have slowed down somewhat again.

Yup, we went to the Gatineau (Quebec) Balloon Festival. Beautiful weather, 1000 RVs parked on site. Here's our pic....

I spent the weekend in a place called the Kern Plateau. It is located on the east side of the southern Sierra Nevada mountain range in California. You gain about four thousand feet elevation in 25 miles up the mountain road and the scenery changes from desert to sub-alpine meadows and Ponderosa pines. There are several campgrounds ranging in elevation from 6000 to 8000 feet and the views of the Kern River, grassy meadows and granite peaks are quite beautiful. The Pacific Crest trail runs right through the campground we stayed at so there were lots of hikers and backpackers. This was my first trip to the southern Sierras but certainly not my last.

Jerry, what campground were you at? I have spent a lot of time along the Kern over the years, camping and whitewater rafting. Did you have your Safari? What "road" are you referring to?

Rick, We stayed at Kennedy Meadows campground because it was quiet. Troy Meadow was closed due to storm damage. Fish Creek and Mahagony Camp were both full of dirt bikers.
The road I referred to is Kennedy Meadows Road ( or Nine Mile Canyon Road). You turn west onto it from route 395 3 miles north of Pearsonville.
Yes, I took the Safari. I even took it on some fire roads where the ruts were so deep half of the duals were off the road when crossing them. Great time!!

Jerry,

I know the road well, though last time I was on it was a number of years ago. I'm impressed that you had the Safari. They must have improved Nine Mile Canyon Road. We have been staying along the Kern River at Fairview Campground most recently. I'll have to visit Kennedy Meadows and Grumpy Bears again.

Rick,
Nine Mile Canyon road was in great shape. I had no problem towing the Safari. I took a side trip (without the Safari) on Monache Jeep Road. It is about twenty miles north and west of Kennedy Meadows and it is paved for about 10 miles. I found a couple of great places to park the Safari and one of them actually has water flowing from a spring. I can't wait to get back up there again.
