Well I can't believe what I saw yesterday. I was on my way home from work, when I spoted a SOB motorhome in the left turn lane. What realy caught my attention was the 20 pound propain tank bungie (sp?) corded to its latter on the back!!!!! Man that is like a 20 pound bomb waiting to be droped!! Glad I was going straight.

On an other not with the beautiful weather last weekend, the wif and I opened up the windows on the trailer for the first time (in who knows how long) to air the thing out. Set the camp chairs outside the door and kicked back. I guess this was "Drive way camping". Heck who need to get it on the raod, we will just cam in the drive.
It's crazy how the windows disapear when there open!!

Here you can see the window. I had to get the right angle. I plan on putting the Stainless Steel trim on all the windows for visability and strength.

Yep that's my tow vehical, from my calculations I'm at 45 pounds per horse power. A little out of the 30-40 pounds PHP, but should do the trick. I have put a trans cooler in it and progressive springs in the rear, plus the bigger cooling system. The trailer should come in at around 6000 pounds gross when I'm done.

Sorry about the snow Davydd, they are talking sanow here this weekend, but none yet...

Cool. Nice to have another B fan out there towing about 6000lbs as well! Sounds very similar to what I did. Do you have the L99 or the LT1 yours?

I also did this to mine:

Installed a 160 degree stat (possible on the LT1 with reverse cooling)

Modified the fuel/air/timing ratios from the factory computer programming...also programmed the computer to have the secondary electric fan to come on sooner than later.

Installed the cop car 5/8 front lower contol arms (was 9/16)

Installed heavy duty rear lower control arms

Moog Prob solver idler arm

Moog rear cargo coils

Bilstein shocks

3.73 gears w/ Eaton 400lb posi

3.5" diam alum MMC drive shaft

Neal ram air torque converter cooler cover

Trans cooler mods

I did a few more, but these were the bigger ones...

I still get about 10 mpg towing. I installed a trans temp gauge and the trans never so far has gotten warmer than 195 degrees while the coolant temps have also been similar.

Can wait to see your car and coach...wish we'd be able to see it in June!

Take that HP vs weight thing with a grain of salt.

Do you think a fuel injected 454 1988 sub would make a good tow rig?

My 1988 454 Sub is rated 230hp.

Its the 385lbft of torque at 1600rpm that moves the trailer.

I been breaking in and seasoning a smoker we bought last night First meal cooked in them were smoked hot dogs LOL.

Starting to cool off now. Little windy as well. Wish either of my Convertibles were running right. Actually picking up the part to fix one tonight.

I was thinking the same thing today even though we aren't quite warm enough for top-down motoring. I suspect that I will be making a trip to the battery shop - - my results weren't so good when I checked my convertibles:

1.) '84 Cadillac Biarritz - - three clicks no action.
2.) '75 Cadillac Eldorado - - started on third try.
3.) '65 Dodge Coronet 500 - - no-clicks, nothing - - battery absolutely dead.
4.) '60 Studebaker Lark VIII - - no-clicks, nothing - - battery absolutely dead.

I had all of the convertibles running in December and January. The weather was so horrible in February that I didn't get them out of storage - - evidently I should have made the trip to get them started at least once in February.

Kevin, is there a place you could hang 4 of those solar battery chargers? You could plug in the cars, and keep the batteries topped off.

I hadn't thought too much about the solar maintainers, but it would certainly be an option. It has been a Saturday tradition for me to at least start each car and allow it to run for 20 minutes or until it is full warmed-up. This winter is the first in a long time that I have been too busy with other projects for the regular routine. I suspect that once I get moved that one of my first projects will be either solar maintainers or trickle chargers for at least the two older convertibles that will be stored about 2 miles from my new home (with my Airstream and Argosy).

I suspect that we will make quite a show in early June when several of my friends are planning a "drive-it-home" party. They are getting together and helping me transport all of my vehicles the 400 miles to my new home - - we have done this before only the distance was just short of 200 miles. We had the caravan streched down the highway as follows: '99 K2500 Suburban, '75 Eldorado Convertible, '90 GMC Safari Van, '84 Biarritz Convertible, and finally '78 Plymouth Horizon (60,000 mile original one-owner). The '65 Dodge and '60 Studebaker are and will be trailered to the new location.

I hadn't even thought of the consequences of moving when you own more vehicles than people! That wasn't a problem last time we moved. Glad you have friends to pitch in and help.

I just got my 68 vette back from winter storage in a friend's garage while he was gone to AZ for the winter. It was nice to have my garage to use all winter, but finally my friend came home and wanted the vette to go back to it's own house. So we charged the battery up and got it running, and the thing ran like a top all the way home. Better than it ran when I took it over there. Maybe it liked the change of scenery.

Anyway, now I'm fixing a broken alternator mount which left the alternator hanging there kind of wobbly, and there's a list of other things it needs fixed. Seems like it came to us with a short list of things that needed finishing, and the list hasn't gotten any shorter in two years, just the items on it keep changing. And of course since the AS came home I am less inclined to spend my free time on the car. Maybe if it could pull the Caravel it would get more of my attention. Wouldn't that be a sight going down the road...
