Mini celebration
Good morning all,
I have been gone from the forum for a while because I had given up hope of finding a small AS that I could afford. I was still reading the local Colorado News letter as I am an advertiser in it. Read it Sunday and saw a minuet advertised. Called the owner right away. She turned out be a wonderful person to visit with and we had a long discussion about her Minuet. Well this AM I bought a '77' 6 meter Minuet. It is rough, will need lots of work, and likely, parts but it is mine. My bride doesn't know I bought it yet so you may read about me in the paper.

Congrats! Welcome to the family ~
I'm glad it found a good new home...and gets to stay here in CO!
Do you have a big red bow? Then you can blame it on the jolly fellow!
May help breaking the news to your wife...or maybe not.
Hope to meet you all soon ~
Shari

Some how you have to make this look like her idea. If you have success with this method please post how so I can use it.
Congrats, Merry Christmas, and DUCK DOWN when you see the plate come your way.

Congrats on the early Santa gift! Sometimes it's easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission with the better half. Good luck and Happy Trails

Pea Green -
Those 6 meter Minuets are SO nice, and can be towed with a smaller vehicle. I hope your wife likes camping and you've been in a tent or pop-up to this point. If so, you should be IN, if you just make a point of how the amenities are for her. Toilets sans flies, a nice warm shower that won't require shower shoes to avoid the dreaded foot fungus... a bed that won't be damp and funky or need to be blown up every night.
Of course that's all AFTER you get her rehabbed. Don't think of this as just YOUR project, but get her involved and helping. That will make it "our" Minnie, not "your stupid rust bucket". You may want to do the critter patrol if she's a mouse-aphobic, but consult her about color choices, resurfacing the sink/tub, etc. Let her pick out the Corian and stainless patterns for the "RV china".
Good luck, SYDTR

Glad you found a a/s.Just tell your wife it was a out of right mind thing. ( happens after turning 53 )Also it's an senior citizen , like you..It could be a new moble office or when you are in the doghouse.but mainly something nice to be in when you and her are camping..
Bob
P/s make sure you have flowers and a box of chocolete candy when you tell her this.. worked for me

The aforementioned "ask for foregiveness rather than permission" has worked for me for almost 38 years. She shakes her head, puts her arms in the air, asks for supreme guidance and a helping hand in the patience department (so I don't become a patient I suspect ), and she for the most part gets on board pretty quickly.
Your excitement and enthusiasm about getting going on the trailer will likely carry the day. When she sees how pumped you are, and when she meets some of the phenomenal people who Airstream, she will (hopefully) be happy with the decision.
Pictures would be very good - and is the truck your intended TV?

thankyou all
Thank you all for the well wishes. I have a photo taken by the previous owner. The 6 meter suffered some after the photo was taken so it does not exactly represent present condition. Guess I need to come up with a name for her also. Think I will let Karen pick the name. That may help a little.
Royce
The '55' in the avatar has gone to Chicago. It was my daily driver for 24 years and is missed. The new owner has been a real gentleman and sent me photos of his TLC lavished on her.

Decorating
ROyce,
Use my technique. Just get your wife talking about decorating the INTERIOR while you work on the EXTERIOR (and inside if it needs it).
Mine was feeling a little "buyer's remorse" but got over it when we began planning decorating, getting new curtains, dishware, etc AND after we camped a couple of time.
CONGRATULATIONS! I cannot wait to see the "after" pictures.

Royce:
Congratulations on the new purchase. Sorry to hear about the '55. I've got a '55 210 2-door that I've had for 21 years. That and the AS are the only things that aren't for sale. Have fun with your restoration and keep us posted with pictures. Ron

Driveway Clear for a "NEW" arrival
The last A/S trailer that I brought in arrived under the cover of darkness. It had been sitting under a tree for more than 15 years without a cleaning. It truly is black and ugly. But showing on the inside, what a jewel in the rough it will be. Mom told me that this is the ugliest trailer she had ever seen. It's amazing what a bit of elbow grease and time can achieve. Best of luck to you convincing the wife to allow it to stay.

COOL! Another minuet! We love ours. CHeck out my photo gallery for some before and after picturs of rehab.
Tell your wife they are desirable, collectable, rare and only the coolest folks have 'em. Fill her full of merlot before viewing the orange or lime green interior and suggest that she can do it up any way she likes.
Have her join the forum.
