made my day ...

I went out this bright Sunday morning for breakfast in Dripping Springs and to putter around the train the storage yard on the way home.

Coming out of Dripping Springs, I saw a vintage Airstream heading west on 290. It wasn't all polished up, but it looked to be in fine shape. I only got a glimpse as it passed by, but I guess it was in the 19-20 foot range and it had 2 square-cornered windows on the street side. Five-segment end caps, I'm sure. I'm guessing it was a 20' Globetrotter, '65 or later.

The whole 5 months I was looking for an Airstream I think I saw one on the road, this weekend I saw three (not counting the ones I saw at the Rally). A small vintage trailer was stopped at the I5 exit to Corvallis, OR Thursday morning in the gas station parking lot. I saw one on the opposite side of the freeway just before that heading north towards Portland. Best of all, on the way home Sunday I spotted a new CCD heading southbound on I5 just before we got to Portland. It was like a flood after not seeing any for so long. Must be the nice weather has people getting out and about again. Of course, I don't know why I was so excited to see them all, considering one was draggin' along behind me!

My best spotting ...

was an International AS just like mine coming east out of Austin on TX 71 a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, he was on the opposite lanes of a very widely separated freeway-to-be (we were on what will be the frontage roads), and I couldn't get his number or even wave and flash my lights.

Like you say, it is exciting even with one just like it following on behind.

Speaking of spotting

Last week we took a boat ride on Old Hickory Lake here in Middle Tennessee and saw three AS from the boat. One in a campground, one at a home and one behing a barn on a farm. The first two appeared to be in usable shape but the last one had a small tree growing between the frames where the propane tanks should have been. It was a 60's model without an airconditioner. Possibly a fixer upper. Yesterday we went to see the last one in case the owner wanted to sale it. However, the driveway had a locked gate and we could not get to the house. May try again from the water if we see anyone is home. You never know where you will see an As.
