Looks like I'll be going now,,,
Yesterday I bought an SOB, white box, stick trailer, whatever else you may call it.
It is actually a nice unit, a 94 27' Holiday Rambler, aluminum skinned, aluminum framed, rear bedroom, center bath, front kitchen, ducted roof air, ducted floor heat and even has a factory installed spare hanging off the rear bumper. Belonged to an 87 year old man who bought it new in 94 and camped in it maybe a dozen times.
Good axles, no rear end separation or sag, no peeling clearcoat or rotten floors.
What to do now with my spare time? Camping maybe?

The Holiday Rambler is a pretty nice trailer. Petunia really wanted one until I won out with my incessant whining about the Airstream.
We were impressed with the fit and finish of the HR Presidential ... and the floorplans. I think the units we looked at had a GVWR of 11,000 pounds ... which helped me convince Petunia that they were "too heavy."
Have fun with your trailer ... sounds like you found a nice one.

See 'ya
Hey Chas,
Good Luck and much fun camping to you!
I almost bought a white camper before discovering the Airstream. It was nicely laid out, very spacious, had the same construction as yours, I forget the brand.
It was much newer, needed very little or nothing to be ready to go. But somehow, the old Airstream stole our hearts.
I still browse through the SOB dealer's lots and check out other trailers and motorhomes, but still always smile when I see our 1971. I cringe when I see the parts bills, and my aching back complains after working on the trailer for an entire weekend, but one outing puts everything back into perspective.
Enjoy your new toy!

New SOB
Hi Chas
Congratulation on the new SOB.
Does this mean you won't need the cabinet I've been saving for you?

Like the Harley guys say, "I'd rather work on my Airstream, then camp in an SOB."
Actually, mine has not required any work in the last year. But furnace replacement is on the horizon, you'd think they would last over 32 years.........

Chas, really seems like it must be a nice trailer..... Why do you have to leave?
There are people on here that do not own Airstreams, I think....just interested in them.
Holiday Ramblers always seemed "super" to us. Now and then I look at my dents and say why did I do this?

I wish you luck with your new trailer, I have owned others also. They worked just fine, and brought me many days of pleasure. I Hope your Trails are Happy ones.

Thanks for the good words,
I was expecting to get a real bashing from all of you.
Believe me, I was really wanting to stay in the family and even get a Squarestream. Just couldn't find one and this HR was too clean to pass up.
I also had my eye on a 24' rear door Argosy for several months, front twins and a side dinette but that deal never materialized. A rare trailer that I would probably still buy if given the chance.

(Gunny, guess I won't be needing the cabinet after all)

Chas... you'll be back. Once you've had an Airstream, it's tough to be without one. Your HR is a great SOB, probably the only one out there that competes with the A/S for quality. Someday though, you'll be tooling around when your new A/S will jump in front of you and say 'Buy me!' and you just won't be able to resist...
Please do stick around... never know what you'll miss!

Best wishes, Chas. It's been good having you around and getting to know you. While the HR may not have the intangible "character" of an Airstream, IMHO, it's every bit as high-quality, and should serve you well for many years.

hey chas,
stick around, there is no reason for you to leave what so ever!
keep this in mind, holiday rambler was owned by harley davidson in the early/mid '90's.
it was one of the reasons they avoided bankruptcy before they could start building quality motorcycles in massive amounts. that, and the utilimaster truck body company were the only things that made any money for them. i see plenty of both on the road to this day.
certainly a quality product, possibly on par with airstream.
besides, you have plenty of airstream/argosy knowledge, that certainly would be missed.

one other thing, i think you need a bumper sticker that reads:
live to camp camp to live
-or-
holiday rambler, if you have to ask you wouldn't understand...

Chaz, the HR is nothing to be ashamed of. I owned one myself in my younger years. They would be roughly the equivalent, in my opinion, to say, a Buick to Airstream's Cadillac. In fact, Holiday Rambler used many of the same supplier parts in their units as Airstream did/does. Thetford plumbing comes to mind, for one. If you have an SOB, at least it is a good one.

Chas,
Hate to see ya leave' I really hope that ya hang around anyway! With all of your experience in owning an A/S I think you would be a good asset here still!
OBTW, my #1 choice for SOB would be a H/R!
Good choice IMHO!

Have read many of your posts - learned a lot from you - thanks
Concur w/ Silvertwinky - HR has always been my only other consideration to a AS, very good products.
Best wishes & yes - there may still be an AS in your future
