Length and weight information

Greetings! Is there a source for the length, weight, and floor plans of AS trailers, say from 1975 thru 2005? Thanks!
Steven

Here is information on the features of models for each year:

http://www.insideout-design.net/VintageAS-models.html

Here is an archive of photos:

Vintage Airstream Photo Archives

I'm not sure where to find plans for each, but the above will give lots of information.

Bill, thank you, that was very helpful.
Cameron, great info, wished it came up into the '80's and '90's.

But I printed both sets of info out, as they're both very helpful. Thanks to you both!

Steven,

RJ Dial has said that his site, vintageairstream, will not go past 1980. I doubt if Shari, inside out, will go to the 1980's and 1990's either (but I am not speaking for her).

As general rule the newer you go the heavier they get. A 31' trailer in 1975 has a GVW rating of 7400# IIRC. With the current units having one of 10,000#. Some of that increase in GVW is due to increased carrying capacity. However the overall weight of the units over the 30 year span increased by a good 2,000#plus. My '75 weighs in at around 5400# empty. Loaded for the road with a partial tank of water it will go close to 6500#. Best advice I can give you when you get one is to take everything out that isn't part of the trailer, then weigh it as it goes back in. Too many of us have a tendency to accumulate "stuff" and it can and will weigh up in a hurry.

If you really want to have fun get your hands on the owner's manual for a '70's model. It has a weight and balance sheet in it that allows you to add and subtract weights and how they affect the tongue weight vs the overall weight!

You're right Bill, I don't intend on updating beyond 1979. I don't know enough about the idiosyncrasies between the later year trailers. I figured I'd leave that project for someone else to tackle.

Shari,

Thanks, at least you included my Safari.

Yeah, right...that's the ticket!

Sorry to burst your bubble Bill, but there was no "magic" or preferential treatment just to accommodate your Safari...it was just the "25-year VAC cut-off" when I put the chart together in 2004.

But you can think there was if you want to...

Shari
