Hot off the presses.... Jesse James is developing an Airstream motorcycle & sidecar concept to be shown at this year's
Legend Of The Motorcycle International Concours D'Elegance in Half Moon Bay, CA.

I hope to attend and get plenty of photos.

Jesse has a fine reputation as an old school builder and fabricator. I hope to see his true talent shine through and hopefully the monster garage is hands off as they could not hardley give their stuff away at barret jackson. Just my 2 cents. Robert

Addition to this story....

I spoke with Dave Schumann at the St. Louis RV show about the bike. Everyone was talking about the price of the unit. It turns out that Sandra Bullock wanted an Airstream so Jesse and the factory struck a deal for the bike.

Airstream plans to use it for advertising, and will likely auction it off in the future for charity.

A couple of comments from the article - value of the bike is $250,000. Sandra wanted an AS for her birthday so the deal was an AS plus an Interstate for the motorcycle. Good deal??? Who came out ahead on that one???

I am figuring the PR benefits provided by Jesse James and Sandra Bullock will play out well for Airstream. It is about image and buyer demographics.... this should serve well to broaden both.

This was discussed before in eariler threads and now to my horror in the latest Airstream Life. Waste of good paper.

I am already turned off by the celebrity biker boy costume parade and now the Airstream Company spends 250k for this ridiculous bike.

Will another celebrity bid more than this amount so Airstream can finally donate procedes to a worthy cause.
That's a long way to go for a company that actually makes a highly visible product that could have been used as service units during Katrina, or the many floods, hurricanes, and other disasters that have stuck this Country while Jesse was building this for the last two years. Two years?

Imagine Airstreams donated to the Red Cross, Animal rescue groups, and so many relief agencies that could have used the help and Just imagine the good will that would have created for "The Company"

The bike just reaks excess and is completely unrideable. It's whole purpose is to annoy john Q public with it's straight pipes and menacing look. Boring. everyone already owns one, now even the Prez of Airstream.

The advertising is backfiring for me. Big turn off. Imagine the Pan America pulls into the campsite next to you at, say, Glacier National Park. The back door opens (probably by remote control) and four middle aged dudes dressed like pirates roll out their trophy hogs planning to ride up and down the Going to the sun road for the next four days.

Nature vacation OVER.

sorry, I just love making fun of this. But really....Charity , IMAGE? and PR and target markets and really? not buying it.

Well it got my attention . I'm mailing off my subscription to Airstream Life today.

The broad and enduring appeal of Airstreams continues to amaze me. I'm glad to see Airstream doing what it takes to keep the icon an exciting brand.

Wow. It seems like it's assumed that Jesse James will turn out a high quality motorcycle and he just hangs around in the shadows, but when the man gets inspired and decides to do something different, it's so far off the radar of what the other bike builders are doing that it's mind boggling. Unbelievable...

Not sure if that picture of 'Radial Hell' is the airstream bike... Though it appears to be one of his. The airstream bike is similar, but with a twin and has a sidecar, right?

yup - the radial engine bike was a "stock" photo that the blogs used with the earlier rumor/press release. The side car rig in the later posts is the one Jesse did for Airstream.
