Jersey Style Winter Camping

It is a tad nippy in the State of NJ. The Eirestream is buttoned down for the winter (plowed in) so I have to get my fix from someplace, hence the countertop campground. I do practice my backing up techniques over the Winter. Good news my first reservation of 2014 is made for April!

You poor guy! This weekend I'll have to winterize again for the third time this winter, because I keep un-winterizing for my winter trips, and winterizing again before the next freeze hits. I was hoping I wouldn't have to winterize again, but this winter is colder than usual for the Gulf Coast.

Love that photo!

It's cold most everywhere, if that is any consolation.

Love the photo but don't see a fire ring. I can also sympathise with you as it is 19 degrees here in OC MD

Run heaters rather than winterize

I am in Alabama and during our latest winter chills I have run heaters in my AS rather than winterize. We were at Canopener 2014 in Florida this Jan and we will be leaving in about a week to go to Ft. Campbell KY in the AS. Does anybody have trouble with freeze-up (damage) when doing this? I keep no water in the holding tanks during this time.

The only parts subject to freezing if you have the interior heat on are the municipal water inlet check valve, the exterior shower fitting, and the black tank flush fitting, all of which are outside the heated volume. Keep an eye on those, and as long as they don't freeze, you're shiny.

Oh...so you watched the Friendly Giant too. Bet you have that back-in parking down now! Going camping this week, weather is just right in the very south "left coast".

To damage the exterior plumbing (flush valves) does it have to get below 25 degrees or so!

Actually, you're on the money.

Global warming isn't so much about steadily warmer temperatures, which could be relatively benign, it is about greater extremes, like we're beginning to experience right now with freezing winters at home and unheard of heat in Australia.

Figured that. Global warming leads to greater evaporation of seawater during the summer while it's hotter. Which leads to increased cloud cover and precipitation, and higher albedo reflecting sunlight back into space from the tops of the clouds, which leads to cooler temperatures just in time for the start of winter. Mother Nature's mood swings.

Good news, it's not manmade. Not unless we somehow also caused global warming on the other planets of the solar system.
