Hmmmm...

Looks like the only difference is that the new ones don't have Jackson Center embossed on them like the $500 one did.

Actually John, it was $585! And nope, no Wally-connection, the seller didn't give much info at all.

Here's a link to the $585 ebay auction listing....it still works today, but I know ebay drops them off after awhile.

Also, do a search on "jack plate" or "jack pad" here on airstreamforums.com to see what all the hub-bub was about...

Shari

P.S. I did end up with one from ebay, but only paid $50...I don't feel too bad!

Shari,

I'm not a member of ebay, so I was unable to view the comments. But I did see how it sold for $585.

So what's the scoop on the jack pad?

I did search jack plate or pad and no matches.

$50 bucks is fair-$585 dollars is out there!

Unbelievable-John

Looks like a deal to me...

Looks like a deal to me, time to burn the 4X8, could use the extra warmth!

As I recall, the jack plate sold on EBay was an "original" for a 50's vintage trailer, and had Jackson Center imprinted on it. All in all, not a real good explanation for the final bid price, but it's the best I have.

I happen to like my 2X6X8 "custom" wood pad.

For records sake ('cause the info @ ebay will go away), below is the listing verbage from the auction:
Quote:
Ebay listing states:

Airstream trailer base plate for front jack

"I don't know what to call this really this, but it's a cast aluminum 9 1/2" square thing for putting on the ground under the front jack on an Airstream Trailer. It appears to be made to accept the shape of a wheel on the jack. One quadrant has some oily stuff on it. I think one of those solvent hand cleaner products would probably clean it up but I'll leave that bit of fun up to the new owner. It doesn't sit quite flat on the floor but I guess that's not a flaw since it's meant to go on the ground. Buyer pays shipping. It weighs about 2 1/2 lbs."

Shari,

Is the one you got for $50 the same as the one that went for $585?

If so, nice going!!

No, but I have a California trailer so it didn't matter to me.

Are CA units worth more because they were manufactured in CA?

Was that Wally's work location?

John

p.s. tks for the history!- hey, another poll-where was your A/S born?

Wally Byam originally started manufacturing the Airstream in southern California, in the Los Angeles area.
