Is BBQ a grill or sauce?
We have a Boston Butt on this morning. Four racks of ribs going on shortly. 348370

A few days back I prepared home made Hot Italian, and Chorizo, sausages on our BBQ grill.
A few days before that I smoked ribs on our BBQ, and then used a home made Kansas City style BBQ sauce for serving. Made the BBQ rub.
Yesterday I smoked a pork shoulder for 10 hours on our BBQ, with a different rub blend, and pulled it. Used apple wood for flavour. I made a thin vinegar sauce, and a thicker mustard sauce, both of which I call BBQ sauces.
My favourite BBQ meal is fresh sockeye salmon filets, and they are in season this month.
We regularly BBQ lamb, pork, chicken, turkey, beef, venison, salmon, shellfish, and vegetables.
I find it hard to understand why people think BBQ is just one thing. This is a site for travel trailers. Travelling broadens the mind. Get out and find some new types of BBQ. What we all called BBQ when we were growing up, wherever that was, was simply a regional variation, it didn't own the word.

yea depending on regions, BBQ is not a grill... for others it is. I have not see signs saying BBQ on sale but always see Grills for Sale at stores in America.

Agree with you. BBQ is what it is to each of us. But the question was asked so the worms came out of the can.

I have seen this conversation range all over the place. The answer is, always was and always will be that Barbecue (or BBQ, Bar-B-Cue, Barbacoa, etc.) is a method of cooking food, primarily meats, on an open grill over flames.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbecue
We can argue forever as to which method is better - personally I prefer Texas style BBQ, but also like Korean and Caribbean style where a whole hog is marinated overnight and then cooked over an open pit for several hours. But the one thing these all have in common is meat cooked on an open grill over flames.
I appreciate all the comments and variations and I must admit that I like all types of BBQ and sauces out there.

Hitches, tires, tow vehicles and BBQ that just about covers it all.
I’ll take BBQ for $200 please Alex.

Now we know the sauce doesn't make it BBQ. The BBQ makes the sauce BBQ sauce.
