Looks like someone broke in by bending the window frame just forward of the door. Yup, love those windows.

This motorhome is 28 feet long. I got it to restore, but i just dont have the time. It needs some cleaning up and some TLC.I pluged it in and everything seems to be working fine. The guy i got it from told me that Grandpa Jones owned it and traded it in at Cullum and Maxy in the 70s. He told me that a doctor bought it and owned it up until he got it a few years ago. If interested call me. My name is Steve at 615-504-4552 Im asking 3300 obo.

I just saw a '55, 17' listed in the San Jose area. No such thing as a 17', I know. I'm going to look at it later this week with the hope that it's a '55 california whale-tail bubble. The owner has no idea what it is, but he knows he wants 5k for it. I'll try to get some pics for you. anyone got an extra 5k laying around?

It's in the high desert, about 60 miles from us, over the mountain through Cajon Pass.

Rich, I went and looked at it, it is a Bubble and it's pretty rough, ground up (shell off) restoration. I have tons of photos if you want to see them. JLMK.
I think that it is a '56 California with Whale tale.
Has a decent tear in the side near the door which has allowed years of leaking (floor & sub floor need replacing) Lots of delamination - needs windows, new tires for sure) BUT it's worthy of a full restore as everything is there.
Cheers,
Laurie

I uploaded all the images to my web site if anyone wants to download them.
Warning to those on dial up, you may be waiting for a long time. (58 low res photos)
www.begoniaweb.com/images/1955_Airstream_Bubble.zip
The owner was pretty firm on his price (his words 'I didn't like the offers I got so I haven't sold it) but the nice thing is that where it's located, you wouldn't know it's there, not a 'drive by' place where it's stored and hasn't really been 'discovered' yet.
I would have loved to get it but I am lacking the skill set to restore her to full glory.

Hi Laurie,
I got a call from Toddster last night, and he also went to look at this one. I would kill for a little whale-tail Airstream, I just don't have anyone to kill for it!
Someone is going to get a really cool project out of this one.
I would like to see pics of it so I can drool and turn green now.
Thanks, Rich the Viking

One caveat. He has no title paperwork on the trailer. Also, the license plate on the back is from Indiana. Could be a DMV challenge.

I think like most of us, I see the hidden beauty of this gem in the rough.... Like Rich, I too have a soft spot for whale-tail Airstreams, plus it is a California trailer, the original home of Airstream
As Laurie stated, this trailer is rough and will need a full shell off restoration. After seeing it though, I now have a new appreciation for these adorable Bubbles. Such efficient use of such little space.

EmptyNesters, thank you for posting the photos.
Could someone please decipher the "347" number on the plate?
Thanks!

I would buy it if I could. My personal financial situation makes it impossible, unfortunately. I stated in another thread some time ago that a California whale-tail would be in my future. I am even planning on retro-ing the Safari into a more Fifties-like look. It's just really cool.
I do have a birthday coming up in February.... This would make a ROCKIN' good B-day prez.
Any takers?
