Reply to: sale-mzsrn-2330715220@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

This is a 1964 airstream overlander in used but fair condition. In need of a few repairs but is structurally sound and sturdy. This is great for a fan of airstreams or just someone with a need for a lightweight versatile camper. Please email if interested I am willing to barter under reason and of course answer any questions. These pictures are taken prior to cleaning!! I will email a checklist of what's wrong and more pics if you respond. Thanks for looking!

1954 AS Salon - 1 of 2 known to exist! Found on Craigslist Santa Cruz, CA

Found this rare AS on Craigslist. $1,800 is not too bad either. - Matt

Hmmm... It's been flagged for removal, why?

1. Axles toooo bad

2. Funky hitch setup (truck nose pointing to the stars)

Maybe its no longer available? Maybe it was being used for agricultural purposes along the border? Or unauthorized desert accomodations for the walking tourist? Smiles

Hi Matt,
Even though this more recent ad has been pulled down from Craigslist, it appears that this may be the same 30' Salon Liner that sold on Craigslist back in January of this year:
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f48/...tml#post936829

(See the subsequent posts for confirmation that it is a Salon Liner and not a Romany Cruiser and for many more detailed photos of that trailer.)

CONFIRMED. its the same. i went to go get it and pulled it out of the boonies, put a set of trailer wheels and tires on it (wasnt originally sold with any) and dragged it home. as for flagging. it could have been the recognition of the price difference. i guarantee after the milage, spending all day getting it road ready, and the price of trailer tires and wheels, i didnt make money. I'm not the Airstream Guy. i actually restore airstreams and had to let this one go due to health issues. (i'll say 'health' issues and really it was) i wish i could have put the time and money into this special trailer. i was just happy to sell it to someone who can take on the project, appreciate what it is and that is not going to turn it into a chicken coop.
and Joe thanks for your expertise in helping me identify the trailer.

Not a problem. I too am glad if it is going to someone who will appreciate it for it's rarity and restore it so that it can once again see the open road as Wally intended.

1998 Airstream Excella 1000

I'd jump on this if I wasn't already in the middle of restoring my '64 26' footer. My guess is that the dent may be letting in some water, so it may require a frame off and dent removal, but at least the appliances, AC, windows and all that other stuff are probably fine. Probably doesn't need the axles, rims, and tires that my rig needs either.

Pretty sure it's not an Airstream...

I'm not sure what this trailer is, but between the shape of the wheel well and the shape of the upper front shell (the really wide center panel with little panels making the curve) I don't think it's an Airstream. My first thought was Avion, but the weird wheel well shape doesn't fit any Avion pictures I can find either.

At any rate, it's likely to be a full rebuild project, but it's cheap.

The shape immediately screamed El Ray to me. El Rays had the distinctive end cap configuration that is seen on this trailer (as did the earlier Airlights which evolved into El Ray after a name change, but Airlights were all much shorter - like 16', while El Ray had much longer models). Not sure how many were made, but you don't see them too often. El Rays were made in the mid-late '50s, but I am not sure the exact years.

I think you're right. I didn't find a picture of a dual-axle model, but this El Rey for sale in Seattle has the same sort of nose.

Vintage Airstream 1967 safari 22' - $5500 (St. louis Mo )

There is a very limited description on Craigslist, so I emailed the guy and he sent me photos and description which I am including below. We went and looked at it, it's OK - definitely usable, needs TLC, a couple of window replacements and maybe some skins replaced. It does have a newer heater/air conditioner and toilet. The curtains and cushion covering are original, but in surprisingly good shape. Some interior doors have been replaced along with some of the wood. Does not appear to be leaking, but does have signs of leaking in past, current owner has had for 6 years and said he replaced floor sections and fixed on top. Also, the anodizing on the aluminum is starting to come off around the top, you can see it when standing next to it. PM me if you want more info. I asked him about putting it on here and he said sure!
