I'm on a traditional hot rod forum and there is quite a bit of discussion on the fact that photos of an event that are usually posted on the forum are now on instagram. As these different hosting formats gain popularity, I think that there is a dilution of information on forums like this one. I did FB for about 90 days and bailed out when people I didn't even know wanted to "friend" me.
Perhaps it's a generational thing, but I have better things to do than constantly check electronic media.
As a side note, there are posters in Wells Fargo touting their mobile banking app showing a family at the dinner table and everyone of them is checking a smart phone!

I'm on dozens of forums. Corvette forums, expo forums, offroad forums, gun forums, this forum. I even ran my own car forum for 6 years. In my mind, forums and their predecessors the Bulletin Boards are the internets true social media. The interactions are always better, the information exchanged usually useful. I've learned how to repair my home, work on cars, rebuild a motor, find constellations, dial in my rifle, etc all thanks to forums.
What does FB offer? Endless dribble and cat pictures.
I avoid twitter and Facebook because they are endless time sinks that encourage behavior that one normally wouldn't do. And research has shown that heavy social media users actually lose the ability to do any real cognitive thinking.
A lot has been written on game theory and the use of the reward system to goad people into over sharing.
We al bemoan big government, but everyone seems content to share away with big data.

I like Instagram and I use Facebook to promote my band but other than that I don't particularly like FB. I am hoping for an invite to try ELLO.

I enjoy fb here and there with a certain core group of friends - otherwise I enjoy it to share photos and content with close family and friends

As a former journalist and somewhat reformed news junkie, the best use of Twitter I have found is when journalists covering a story are able to pretty much live tweet what is going on in situations where they really can't do a broadcast or compile an entire story to post on their news site. Of course this does require some experience, otherwise what you get lacks context and raw feed can often be fragmented and misleading, either intentionally or not.
When the Texas Rangers were being auctioned off in bankruptcy court in the late evening to early morning hours a few years ago, Anthony Andro, one of the reporters covering the event did an amazing job of posting the blow by blow with enough color and scene information to give great contextual framing.

Mine...
My instagram
To put this in context, I (and my other half) are getting married later this year, and hope to be fulltiming within two years. I'm a critical care RN, and would like to travel around the country. I figure I might as well do it while I'm young!
Oh, and so far I'm not doing all that much on instagram, but I am working on changing that!
