How obsessions begin

I thought it might be cool to show a picture of the trailer that my Dad used to own in Florida. Somewhere I have photos of this on the inside too, but haven't found them yet.

This photo was shot long after he sold it, and after he passed away. My husband and I hunted for the property that we owned on which it was parked (permanently). To our dismay it had been rented out for many years, then let go empty, and was totally trashed inside.

Anyway I'm sure that someone call tell exactly what this was, and the year. I remember that the last plates on it were 1956.

Here's my guess. How about a '50's model Sparton? Maybe a Mansion?

looks like a 48-9 Spartan Manor 25 footer... does she have a single axle? i LOVE these old trailers. the interiors are much warmer and roomier than the (gulp, here comes teh feedback) airstreams were.

i have seriously thought about restoring one of these after my growing list of 'streams is done (well, let's be serious for a sec.. these things are NEVER done... when they are, we get another one!)

Goin camping - I shot this picture in 1988. At that time the property with the trailer was for sale, but I didn't have the money to buy it. The next time we went and looked it up, everything was gone. The gorgeous land that it was on, with beautiful trees and shrubs, had been cleared flat and a new house erected.
When we asked the next doot neighbor what had happened to the trailer he proudly showed us his flat utility trailer he made from the frame.

Ouch.

By the way, after looking at the Spartan website (thanks A-Merry-Can) it looks like a 1951 Royal Mansion.
And I well remember the beautiful wood interior.
Sigh.

Where on earth do you keep finding these bargans? Man, wanna share?

The Manision is indeed a double axle. It's in a salvage yard in Covington. When we stopped by there about 3-4 weeks ago, the yard owner was going to sell it for scrap. I told him to E-Bay, if nothun else. He said he would hang on to it for a while, since I got him all stirred up over the somewhat rare find he had. Susan took a couple of Cell-phone pics, I'll check tonight and see if she still has them.
