Buy the AS MH

Are you sure you want to go with an AS TT and not the new 2004 Classic MH (if they finish it)?

An Auragen.
I did a google on that the other night and did not find anything readily.
Can you give me some direction? And explination?
Think I saw a thread on it somewhere.

YOU ARE BRILLANT!
I went to the site and lo and behold it is approved for EXCURSIONS, with the Power Stroke. And they have it for the new 6.0 Power Stroke.
Have any idea of the cost?
Know of anyone that uses it with an AS?
With a diesel Excursion you would simply let the Excursion run and plug the AS into the Excursion female Auragen plug.
Then can have 50 amps if needed.
As you know, these engines can idle without heating up.
So, lock the Excursion, leave it running, turn on the ac and go to bed.
If the solution is this simple, how come it is not readily known?
What a capital idea.

And, again, Thanks.

Aahhh! The nocturnal smell of diesel as I nod off for the evening.

Seriously, if you are going to idle that diesel for an extended period, better get Ford's Automatic Idle Controller to prevent wet stacking.

If you are patient, you don't have to pay retail. The last one I bought new for $300 plus shipping for my 2002 Silverado Duramax Allison. It will not only power my Airstream but anything else I wish. It even works while on the move. Talk about power for an air horn, just use a 120/240 volt compressor mounted under the body. Make sure you get one of the Auragen Extension Cord Kits, they are invaluable.

Last month an Auragen adapted for a Ford Triton motor on eBay got no bids and it could have been bought for $350. Any Auragen will work on any vehicle, you just need the correct adapter kit. The kits for the new diesels are elaborate.

The final installation process involves programing the Auragen to adapt to your vehicle's computer system and has to be performed by an Auragen trained and equipped technician. The link will locate your nearest dealer.

My current Airstream was purchased from a former BlueBirder.

Diesel
Thanks!
Automatic Idle controller and no retail on an AuraGen. Got it.
I am looking at the 04 Excursion, 6.0.
That should allow me to pull a 30SO Classic or the Safari 28SO.
Porky, see that you are ordering a 34.
Nice, but don't think it will all fit within the Excursions 11K# practical weight limit.
Read somewhere practical limit is about 75% of tow limit (11,000 x .75= 8,250#) and the 30SO has a GVWR limit of 9100#, 7877 empty, 1125 usable.
Looks like there will be a great BB on the market soon.

Jim,

You're right about the Excursion. Had my heart set on one until I did a weight study with the 34'.

Not enough capacity .. thus the F-350.

If you want to get familiar with the Ford Diesel you should visit ... The Diesel Stop

Went to diesel stop.
Great site, thanks.
Be a great rig when you put the 34 and 350 together.
Tell me your feelings on pulling a 34.
My wife really likes the room, but it sure stretches you out there.
Turning radius, hooked up with your 350, any idea?
Fuel mileage with the 350 and 10# of AS?
Notice you are and Escapee. Headquarters are about 75 miles from my home.
So, you will fulltime? 34 would make a lot of sense then.
And, what are you going to do for elec. gerneration when you boondock?

Zero.

Don't know yet ... but I am betting on 12-14 MPG at 60-65 MPH.

We plan to fulltime for at least 3 years .. and then come back and figure out what to do about our house.

We will do very little boondocking ... so we're going to wait to see what we will need when we do. The Hondas sound pretty good.

This wait is killing me!

Ohhhhh!

Porky, Porky, Porky............

I run a 7.3 Liter E-350 dually pick-up conversion (4.11).

The best I've ever gotten LIGHT is 14.

The 6.0 PSD gets better mileage than the 7.3.

Also .. I will have a 3.73 rear end .. again better mileage than the 4.11.

Quite a few folks on The Diesel Stop are reporting mileage in the 10.5 to 12 MPG range ... with 3.73 rear ends ... and they are towing 10K and heavier 5th wheels ... with the 7.3 PSD.

MPH, wind and terrain have alot to do with it.

Hey Leadfoot ... I don't think 12 to 14 is too out of whack .. but we will see.

EXCURSION- 7447#, NAKED, 7.3 PSD, 126kMILES
AVERAGE AT 70= 17
AVERAGE AT 65= 19
AND, THAT IS COMBINED, HIGHWAY AND CITY, BUT I LIVE IN THE COUNTRY.
UNDERSTAND THE 6.0 PSD IS ABOUT 10% BETTER THAN 7.3 ON MPG.

Interesting; this thread has morphed into something that has nothing to do with the subject. I realized the 16CCD is at some risk of theft, and ordered the trailer keeper/wheel lock device. This thing fits, but not well, onto the AS, as the central hub cover makes the fitting tight. It seems that it can only be installed on the driver side (no big deal). Also, the location of the lug that the device attaches to is critical; must be in the 7:30 or 7:38 position. My biggest concern is that these are designed for boat trailers, or others with wheels set outside of the trailer. If someone were to try to pull the AS with this device on it, it would tear the hell out of the trailer. I called the manufacurer and asked if they would cover damage to the trailer. They will not. So, I would not recommend this device.
