I know this is way off base to be posting here on the Forums (please feel free to move or delete this moderators) but I don't know where else to turn for sound advise about this matter but to my trusted Forum friends.

My problem: I have been given a sofa and it's in Salt Lake City, Utah and I'm in north central Texas - how do I get it here? Seems like I could find something quicker and easier than having to take a week of vacation (valuable camping time) to run up there and get it? I've thought about running an ad on Craigslist but would be afraid I'd never see it again. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get it from there to here without breaking the bank? It is a used sofa afterall.

To tie this in with Airstreams - we are looking at an Airstream that has been gutted and this sofa may or may not fit in it. Regardless, of whether it will fit in a "potential" new Airstream or not, I would like to have it but don't know how to get it here. Any suggestions?

You can contact a trucking company to see if they can pick it up and ship it for you. Maybe even a moving company that may be coming to your area and have room to carry it. I hope this is a very valuable sofa, because if it's not valuable now it certainly will be by the time you get it to Texas.

It's not a valuable sofa. It is just one I have admired for a while and I was told it's mine if I'd just come and get it or they were giving it away. I'd like to have it but have never dealt with having something this large shipped. I don't want to end up spending more to get it here than it would cost me to go out and buy a new one locally. I was just looking for suggestions before giving up on it completely.

Post an ad on Uship.com. You can list anything. I have used it for trailers and other things as well.

How much money are you willing to spend? I think sofa might be close to 200 lb. If the shipper can wrap it in plastic and put it on pallet, some shipping company will take it. I know UPS have special division for stuff like that. You have to call them. Other option would be check the railroad shipment. But the sender would have to deliver the sofa to the terminal.

A valuable lesson I learned with household furnishings is that mot of them won't fit through the entry door.
Maybe you could put an ad in the forums classifieds to help get it closer to you. If not, there's always Criagslist.

Thanks Steve for the Uship.com suggestion. I have never heard of them but will check them out.

Kajtek1 I never even thought about UPS - I just figured it would be too heavy for them to consider. I'll check into that too.

I just knew there had to be someone here on the Forums who could tell me where to start looking. You can find an answer for just about everything here!
