is the 16ft rear bumper to tow ball

or just the outer shell ?

Bumper to ball, ask away, that is why the forum is here.

How are Airsteams measured ?

Another curious issue that comes up when discussing Airstream length is how Airstream went about determining the advertised length of their trailers. For instance, the actual measurement reported in factory literature for my '64 Overlander International is 26' 8" and it was advertised as a 26' trailer. My '78 Argosy Minuet 6.0 Metre according to factory literature measuers 19' 3" and it was advertised as a 20' trailer. It almost appears as if the practice was to round down in the '60s and round up in the '70s.

The nominal sizes of various Airstream models over the years has been determined by marketing needs, not actual dimensions. This practice continues today. There are Airstream Classic 30, and 31 foot models. Or are there? Check http://www.airstream.com/trailers/20...fications.html and you will find the published exterior length of both models is 31 feet.

Trailer Height?

Hey Mark!!

I was wondering if you had any info on trailer height? I have a 1980 Caravelle, with the org. owner's manual but no where in the whole thing does it say the height. I know that the air cond. unit gives it an extra 12 or 13 inches, but I was just trying to figure it out for storage reasons.

If you have any info, I'd appreciate it!!

Thanks!!

How are Airsteams measured ?

RE: Exterior Clearance Height

Greetings Whisperwoman1!

I would suspect that the 1980 Caravelle wouldn't be too much different in height when compared to the similarly sized Minuet. My literature indicates that 1978 to 1980 Argosys under 27' have an exterior height of 8' 5.5" (without Air Conditioning) - - 27' and larger are listed as having exterior heights of 8' 10" (without Air Conditioning). The manual for my Coleman air conditioner indicates that it adds 11.75" to the clearance requirement.

Given the close relationship of Argosy and Airstream, these figures should at least get you into the ballpark of the clearance height for your Caravelle.

"I was wondering if you had any info on trailer height? I have a 1980 Caravelle"

The manual for my 85 Sovereign does say, but I do not remember the dimensions and the trailer, with manual inside, is parked 25 miles from town. I suggest you post your question as a new thread - someone will have the definitive anwswer.

Yours,

Mark
