Help - trying to track down my grandfather's Airstream

Hello All,

My grandfather of 98 years passed away last week and we were going through old family photos and his Airstream came up. I have fond memories of camping with my grandparents as a young child and would love to know the history of the trailer and where it is now - especially if it is for sale somewhere.

I know the number on the back of the trailer was "11164" but I do not know the exact model. It was probably a 70s or early 80s model.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have no other information at hand.

11164 is not listed in the 2015 membership book. Maybe someone with an older book may have the number. I think if you had an idea who they sold it to that may work in tracking where it is. They all have a serial number as well. I have a 2010 so others may know more than I do on tracking it down.

The 11164 is a WBCCI club number, not related to the trailer in any specific way other than it was the trailer they owned when they had that club number.

So, it is very difficult, if not impossible to trace a specific TRAILER by the big red CLUB number you see in a photo. That trailer may have had several numbers, no number at all for while and so on. The club number is more like a license plate number, it is temporary.

Is there not a record within the club as to what model trailer the club number was attached to?

Both of my grandparents have passed and I'm not sure if they would have kept the original records - they probably passed those to the next owner as they were very meticulous about such things and purchased it new.

You need to contact the club for information. The AirForums website is not affiliated with the WBCCI, although many are members of both.

WBCCI may be able to help you to some extent. Keep in mind that the big red number on an Airstream is the membership number of the owner. It has nothing to do with a specific type of trailer. The Club may be able to tell you what type of Airstream your grand parents owned when the were members.

There are a couple threads on these forums that talk about WBCCI numbers, specifically people looking for historical info on the numbers their trailers came with. It's a long shot, but you might look through those to see if the current owner reached out. Condolences on your loss and good luck--hope you find her!

Thank you - I just emailed Tara with Member services for assistance. Hopefully she can point me in the right direction. Would love to find their exact trailer if possible but if I knew the model information, I would settle for one just like it.

Can't help you with where the trailer might be but as far as WBCCI info, I can help a bit.
The last WBCCI directory that I have that #11164 was listed in was in 1995. The listing was for Lewis & Kathryn Ort of Bryan OH. There were no caravans listed to give a clue as to where the trailer may have been. The Unit the WBCCI dues were paid to was Unit #87 Toledo Ohio but that is another dead end as that unit is no longer in existence.

Well that's them! The timing is right because they moved away from Bryan in about that time period. I guess that is all there is to know unless I can find a VIN.

Good luck. I would very much like to have my parents or grandparents trailer. If you can scan the pics you have, that may allow someone to identify model and approximate year for you.

Sorry I can't help. I tried looking up that number in the 1975 WBCII Directory that I found in my 68 Sovereign and it jumps from 11163 to 11166

We have a 1997 WBCII directory and it does not list #11164.

Please share some pictures of them and their trailer. We would love to see them, and should be able to quickly give you an idea of what model/year it was, if enough clues are visible.

Might there be any license tag receipts or old title papers in your grandfather's effects?

BT2513, don't despair if you don't find that trailer. It could cost $100,000 to $+150,000 to restore it. Your grandparents left to you a love for RVing with A/S. Build on that & get a good like new used A/S & begin your own adventures, keeping in mind those who have lead the way.
