Here you go - fan, lights and phone charging – and there’s still a 12 volt plug available to plug an inverter in. These portable power supplies are a lot more fun if you do them yourselves, lots of ideas on youtube. The fan is: https://www.o2-cool.com/FD10006AU

The Yeti 1000 is rated at 96.8Ah. If my fan is drawing 6A, my math tells me I will be getting a LOT more than a few hours.
With a 200 watt solar panel, assuming 50% efficiency, 100 Watts goes into 1000 Watts 10 times (all these are assuming the Yeti is completely depleted) so I am hopeful I can recharge it in one day.
I appreciate the do it yourselfers. I’m just not in the mood to “build my own”. I want something professionally done and with a warranty. Call me silly.

I agree. Plus the Goal Zero line includes many accessories, like small lights intended for tent camping, which might make good outside lighting like under the awning roller. These are plug and play . . . . nice! The details of these accessories are in one of those other threads.

They even have a small fan . . .

I found a Vornado 783DC Energy Smart full size air circulator. Fancy term for a nice fan that doesn’t pull a lot of juice. According to the manufacturer, it uses less than 2 watts on low (but who uses a fan on low?) and 60 watts on high moving 655 cfm of air.
On high I should be able to use the fan all night long (60x8=480) and still have 1/2 of my charge available.
I can plug in a Boulder 200 watt panel and top it off during the day and recharge my cellphones and iPads. Rinse and repeat.
Now, if it’s not a sunny day, I’m screwed...

Hi
Ok, your battery is ~ 100AH. If you are in a normal part of the world, a "200W" panel will peak out around 10 to 13A at high noon. You will need 8 to 10 hours at that peak to put 100AH back into the battery. If you are running a 100W panel (as in my previous post) it will take longer still. Just as if you are running the 60A fan you previously mentioned in a post above will flatten the battery quite quickly.

Goal Zero for disaster preparedness
The fan I’m looking at uses 60 watts, not amps, so I’m guessing it will work. I can’t find anywhere where it says how many amps it uses.
https://www.vornado.com/shop/circula...air-circulator
EDIT: The manual says the power adapter for the fan is 2.5amp.

You have a trailer and chose to live in an area prone to Hurricanes why not just get out of dodge till the storm is over. Why risk your life waiting to see what the storm or storms will do. Dave

With all of last summer's hurricanes, that advice would have resulted in tens of thousands of RV's wandering around the entire Southeast IMO!
Predicting the track of a hurricane accurately enough to leave a day or two ahead of time is pretty difficult.
No major storms yet, but fasten seat belts!

Even if I left I’d still want to be prepared at the very least for a power outage lasting a few days. Being able to move my trailer doesn’t make me immune from that.
Oddly though, I’m better prepared to weather a storm in my trailer than in my house...

In any case, a small 12V RV fan pulls about 0.4A. ( ~ 5W). Low power fans are down around 0.2A ( ~ 2.5W) . A Fantastic Fan (stock, not modified) is around 2A on 12V ( ~24W). In all cases it's a lot easier to look at amps and amp-hours.

Hi
Ok, so the fan runs on 24 volts. The 2.5A number is on the *output* of the adapter at 24V.
If the plan is to use that adapter, it's probably worth your time to take a look at the *input* current to the gizmo. They never are 100% efficient and some are crazy ( like 70%). How they keep from melting .... well, sometimes they melt ...

Sometimes you just have to pull the trigger and let the chips fall where they may. I’m now leaning towards the Yeti 400 because of size and weight. Also the solar panel I would need is smaller and lighter (100 watt instead of 200). Not sure I want to carry around 80 lbs of battery/inverter/panels around.
I’ve seen some 12 volt fans that may work. I’m just going to have to bite the bullet and make it work as best I can. Thanks for all the input! [emoji4]

Good choice IMO, and as I said before, you can always add on another 400 if needed.

Wondering if you got the 400 and whether you are happy with it?
Thanks,
Peter

Yup, got the 400. I haven’t been able to put it through it’s paces yet, but so far I am very happy with the size and weight. I think I made the right choice for me. YMMV.

Well, I took it out for a spin. It was a very sunny day, and the Boulder 100 panels were generating about 72-75 watts, which is about as high as I was told to expect from 100 watt panels (then why not call them 75 watt panels???)
I tried an old fan I had to keep cool, and it was consuming 122 watts. At that rate I could run it all day but I would be almost depleted by the end of the day.
I need a new fan.
The max input of the Yeti 400 is 120 watts. I cannot chain 2 Boulder 100s together, but I can chain a Boulder 100 and a Boulder 50, so I may pickup a Boulder 50 panel just so I can get max input on a sunny day.
So far I am liking the Yeti. Not only how it works, but its portability and storability. Highly recommend it!

So that’s $400 for everything - including the 100-watt folding solar panels. Any one item can be used separate from the rest and if any one item fails, it can be easily replaced without scrapping the whole setup.

This is the voice of experience speaking. It meets the standard of One is None - Two is One and it can be easily repaired in-field by scavenging a new battery, panel, etc. Great thinking.

Goal Zero Yehti vs. Battle Born Lithium Ion Batteries
Have a Goal Zero 1000 which does a great job for some extra power in our TT. Thinking of buying 3 more and just plugging them into the 110 service for extra juice when boondocking (for ~$3,000)-- VS. going to the trouble of installing 3 Battle Born batteries (which would run ~$4,000-$5,000 installed)
Both would provide about 300 Amp hours of power; both are lithium... and the Goal Zero has the added benefit of portability in case I need the power elsewhere (or if I swap into a new TT... easy).
Pros? Cons? Thanks for all wisdom and perspective!
