I have the Duramax and am very satisfied with it. Mine is 10 months old and I have put 22,000 miles on her. It has made 5 back and forth trips between Ohio and Florida, pulling up to 12,000 lb trailers. (Airstream, Gooseneck 4 horse, bumper pull 2 horse and 18' bumper pull 10,000 gvw flatbed) I get around 18 mpg "country" driving, 12-15 pulling trailer and almost 21 mpg highway. Uses NO oil. I have been running Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40 oil. I do 6-7 K oil change intervals.

Overall I am very satisifed with this truck. It has not been back to the $tealer since I bought it. No problems whatsoever.

Well, I have one real one and one that is a Caprice with all the same parts (engine, etc). The clone one, is faster and has more power (due to mods).

I would be trading the real Impala SS for whatever I do eventually get. The clone, I'd keep as I've sunk a fair amount of change into it to be able to succssfully tow the Safari. I might keep it as a secondary tow vehicle and a daily driver-- not that the gas mileage on the Impala/Clone is any better than the 8.1L towing or not!

A bunch of dealers I've spoken with seem fairly anxious to get their hands on it. Maybe I might dump the Clone instead. As you can tell, I'm draggging everyone with me along on the process of what to do. Thanks to all for the info and help along the way.

Yea, I feel the same way. The real SS has 4,875 miles on it. Had it since new and sits in the garage, gets run every 3-4 weeks, and humidifier in the summer humid months around here. She's pretty darn flawless.

I think the dealer would get a kick out of having 10 folks in one of those cramped little offices.

I'm doing my oil change today and this thread got me thinking so I checked it today - 1/4 quart down after 3000 miles - not bad.

yea, I know. It's funny, that car has had more oil changes in 4900 miles than my daily driver.

I can see it now, Eric. In 40 years or so, when you die, your widow is going to call the junkyard to get rid of "that old car" that her husband never drove...
