This is what A/S told me to do
My rig had been sitting on the dealers lot almost a year when I bought it, so the film was almost cemented to the stainless steel. Anyway, I called A/S tech support and after telling me that the dealer should have removed it, they then told me to use a heat gun and patience. It took me an entire day to remove the stuff. I used a commerical heat gun. I would heat an area about the size of your hand until I could see a bit of bubbling up (not scorching), I then took a hard plastic spatula and carefully removed the released film. The key to heating the film is to never leave the gun pointed at any one spot. I used a circular motion to heat the area. Sometime I got lucky and a much larger section would peel away. After I got all the film removed, I was told to use some laquer thinner to remove the adhesive that might remain (care not to splash any as it will remove clearcoat and paint as well). BTW, the stone guards are not clearcoated as stainless steel needs no such protection. Not really difficult, just time consuming.
