Flags on Airstream

Hi there;

May be a stupid question so ...

Most of time, I see on your trailers, a lot of different flags; the US one, of course, but one or two others one . Is it a tradition when you go in campgrounds to do that ?; is it to complete the deco and add colors or is it because you are a club member and they are your colors, by example ?.
Do you thing I can do or i have to do the same in FRANCE ( with the french flag... ) ? .
Finally, where do you find and buy these flags ?

Thank you one more time .

Bruno.

For many of us, the flag displays are part of the WBCCI (Wally Byam Caravan Club International) experience. I have flag holders that accommodate three flags on each of my coaches - - I typically display my U.S. Flag, State of Illinois Flag, and Vintage Airstream Club Flags. Those who are club officers or past-officers of the club also have flags denoting their positions. Some of the Units as well as some of the Intra-Clubs also have flags or banners/pennants (to fly in addition to other flags). It isn't a requirement of the club, but many members do choose to fly their flags both when traveling as well as when attending official functions.

We too fly the U.S. Flag, our State Flag (Colorado) and the Vintage Airstream Club flag. In addition, because I am on our WBCCI Unit's Board, we have the DenCO Unit 1st VP flag which next year will change to the DenCO Unit President's flag.

Does WBCCI make various flags available to members at a good price?

Some WBCCI Units have their own flags designed & made for members...but not all do, depends on the Unit.

In the US you fly the federal flag in the middle, state or unit flag on the left facing the rig and local or officer's flag on the right. The order of importance is 1st middle, 2nd left, 3rd right.
US flags can be bought at WalMart and you can't beat their prices for sewn flags of good quality. They also sell state flags depending on the state that you are in. These are usually printed and of fair quality fair price. Good quality state flags can be purchased from West Marine or other boating supply stores. WBCCI has about 2-3 pages of how to display flags depending on if you are in the US or outside our borders, and how many flags you are displaying. They also have flag holders and poles in the Blue Beret.

Flags for sale at WBCCI

Yes they do sell flags.

See your WBCCI unit Store person, (typically the treasurer).

They just recently began making and selling flags to general members.

If I am not mistaken this is discussed somewhere in your Blue Beret.

I fly either an Argosy flag, or the American flag, depending on where I am, and what function I am attending.

Ours came from a kite shop in Oregon and represents nothing - but it makes our little trailer easy to locate in a crowd.

About size

Is there a standart flag size, according with the clubs rules and favorite position on the trailers;
I've seen, on mine, great holes in the rear bumpers ( no rust )and I wandered if it was one of my prior owners , who decided to put flags there.

Finally, is there anyone who has found flags dealers links to order them from FRANCE ?

i think , I have to complete my airstream look, for the next season.

Bruno.

If you fly only one flag it would be the country that you are in. We fly the US flag on a 12' pole. When we are attending rallys we fly the US flag in the middle, Virgina State Flag (our unit flag) on the left facing the trailer, and my officer's flag on the right. A 3' x 5' flag is considered standard. Walmart and other similar stores carry the flags as well as all of our boating stores. Hope this helps.

I doubt that the holes in your coach's rear bumpber were for flags. My guess would be that they were used for radio equipment, bicycle carrier attachment points, water purification (filtration) equipment attachment points, spare tire bracket attachment points, or possibly stabilizer jack equipment attachment points. Most owner's display their flags from the front of the coach - - most often using a bracket attached to the tongue jack post - - in fact there is a company that specializes in this equipment, and you can find their advertisement on the WBCCI classifeds webpage - - the company's name is Pole Ease - - I have their three flag holders on both of my coaches and they are very durable as are the telescoping flagpoles that they sell (I don't know what their policies are regarding international orders).

If the flags that you want are US or any of the 50 states, the link below will connect you to one of the websites offering these flags:

CVS Wholesale Flags

For virtually any national flag, Flag.Net.Shop, seems to offer a very wide selection. Quality Flags also offers a wide selection of national flags as well.

Good luck with your search!

Kevin

The WBCCI Officer flags are 3'x5', the VAC flag is 2'x3'...personally, I prefer the smaller size as the large ones look kinda silly on our little 19' trailer. However flag protocol states that the US flag is supposed to be the most prominant one displayed...so I guess I'll have to get a 3'x5' US flag to fly when I display the WBCCI officer's flag.
