Fifteen years of Airforums.com membership

Wow... I just looked up an old thread for some info, and saw in my signature that I joined in March of 2003. Amazing how the time has flown by!

Andy, Janet... and all of the former and current staff members... well done!

I recall fondly in '02 when Andy first started the place... we were a bunch of folks who owned old Airstreams and helped support one another in repairing our old trailers. Many of the original members came from the Vintage Airstream list serve where we exchanged tips and parts sources.

In 2002, the internet was still in its relative infancy. Dialup service was still the norm in much of the country. Netscape Navigator was at the top of its game, but had just about run its course as a browser. I lurked here for almost a year before actually joining in March of 2003. I wasn't sure whether the new "forums" format was going to be successful or not. Andy had no doubt and has built the Social Knowledge empire he has today.

It has been interesting watching Airforums grow... new people excited to learn about Airstreams coming in... old timers moving on. We've made lots of good friends here, and I'm proud that many of these friendships have stood the test of time. We still attend the Midwest Rally at Moraine View IL annually even though we sold our last Airstream trailer in 2006 (with a brief B-Van 190 return.)

It's a pleasure to stay on the Airforums and Airstream life periphery... I still enjoy the trailers and I certainly enjoy our Airstream friends...

So here's to fifteen years of friends and Airforums membership! Cheers!

I think i joined in 05 and have seen the membership change from campers to glampers. What a disappointment. This is still the best forum for info and bsing, though!

This thread prompted me to check my join date and saw that I joined in Dec 2003, about 6 months after I purchased my first Airstream. Since then I have learned so much - and bought and sold two Airstreams through use of the classifieds here.

I especially like that this is such a well-behaved group, unlike many other such discussion forums on the internet.

Good job, folks - members and mods alike.

Pat

Hello Rog, will we see you at Moraine View in June?
Like you and others, I/we enjoy the FORUM. The FORUM is a good tool to explore the Airstream Life.

Had to check and see it was December 2003. Time has slipped by very fast.

Hardly a glamper.......I'd reserve that for fru-fru crowd, though I enjoy them just the same. We're all out there for the same reason!

Love my 2018 Classic 33 and while it has new tech, you still have to learn how to function without it when the tech isn't working or it takes two hands, at least two screw drivers, and a rubber mallet to figure out and fix the problem. So, us newbies may be viewed with disdain by long-timers, but thank you for your years of hard-earned experience and putting fingers to keyboard and posting it here whilst looking down from the top of the mountain I am climbing. The signs aren't always easy to read, but the hand-cut steps are fantastic.

No. Nothing wrong with glamping, if you buy new you have no choice! That is tge dissappointment. If you want to camp without the new gadgets You Must used.

Aug of 2007! Has it really been that long?!?!?!?

The sad trend is people are moving away from forums like this. But this forum has been a wealth of information to me and help on so many different levels.

I have also been around here for awhile. I have seen a slight shift in the membership, but there is still a whole bunch of good information here.

Thanks for the memories, Rog. '04 for us. Dang, that's a long time ago.

I'll never forget a post from years ago by a forum friend (who's still around). Went something like this:

"Streamin' isn't camping, it's much better. A six pack of Schlitz and a can of sardines. Now that was camping once upon a time."

Jim

Hey just remember, throughout history the same could be said about all new owners! I was camping in a 1000 degree canvas tent next to some wuss glamper in a shiny new 1980 Airstream Excella II 31 at some point! the downfall of modern society!

Congrats on the 15 years to the OP!

I read the forums every day...have learned so much. What a great group, when you read discussions it's like being in a room with a bunch of friends sharing ideas. Miss seeing a lot of names.

Relative newbie here... and about to pick up my first Airstream which will also be my first RV. I have to say, I don't think I would have gone from dreaming to reality if it weren't for this forum - your encouragement is greatly appreciated. I've learned so much and read so many of your travel stories - I can't wait to share my own! I've contributed to many forums through the years, travel, food, recipes, etc... This is one of the best! Just an extremely generous and patient group of people.
