Factory Tour - Camping at the Terraport

Hello everyone!

This note comes to you from the terreport at the Airstream factory in Jackson Center, OH. The day is beautiful and tour was allot of fun. I'm amazed at how handmade the product is right down to the window frames and the cabinets. Although hand made is wrought with deviations, it means each unit is truly unique. I'm impressed and just thought I'd share.

Cheers,

Javier

Just passing through. I did not make an appointment so my small items could not be attended to.

Six years ago, when we first toured the factory we had a lot of fun seeing the construction process.

Also, while there, a very new looking trailer was in a bay for repairs. The technician was drilling out the rivets around a window so that a leak could be fixed.

Today, after reading many, many posts regarding leaks, and having had some of my own, I'm afraid this memory has taken on new meaning and significance.

Nonetheless, we love our AS MH and will continue to nurture it for years to come.

Hand built - pluses and minuses but regardless, the one and only Travel Trailer like it!

All I know is the 7am wake up tractor always seems too early.

Sorry, the phone double posted the picture.

No worries - I just used my 3d-glasses I saved from some cereal box from my past and admire how you managed to take a 3d pix. So lifelike!

Glad you're enjoying the tour and JC. We always stop whenever we are remotely close.

Pat

Ehhh! Nice but not earthshaking. Perhaps the one thing I wanted to see the most was the frame, tanks and ducting......Sorry! Haffta come on a Friday to see that.

Had a friend tell me that the frame rails were only stamped 12 ga. sheet metal in his '63 (which I saw first hand as he was repairing a break right over the axle) and he said they still made them the same way. So still don't know.

Thanks for the tip! I wanted to see the frames, too, but the day we were there none were at that stage.

Yes, the factory is very impressive. Sure wish that we would be in a position to buy a new Airstream, but that isn't going to happen. A used one is a definite possibility, though.

Hello. Our AS could possibly be on the assembly line right now. I called JC a few weeks ago and was given a offline date of July 27th.

If anyone is doing a tour and spots our AS it would be neat to hear about it. I don't think photos are allowed but that would be even better. We live about 5 hours away but DH is very busy at work and then leaving town.

It's a 30 foot international serenity with dual AC and we deleted the skylights. Last name Hughes.

We always wanted to tour JC, hopefully someday.

It would be nice if there was a webcam, that a new trailer buyer could get a pass to access, to watch his/her trailer progress from parts to completion. That would be a great selling tool???

So GolfStream, how much did you spend in the Airstream Store? We usually spend at LEAST as much as we do in the service department
