Ebay - again

Looks like the Airstream life Article has sparked new interest in the Pottery Barn replica!

Check out the ebay listing.
I'm surprised it's going for so low since it has all the tags

We love your mailbox but it wouldn't last a week on our street. We have baseball bat driveby's all the time. Had to revert to $10 plastic boxes which we purchase by the case!

Those are not officially sanctioned Airstream models. Note that the WBCCI numbers are on there but the Airstream plaque is strangely absent. I heard there was a bit of a roe about it.

I know a cure for that!
take one of those really huge mailboxes, then put a standard one inside it, fill the gap between them with concrete.
They might be a bit shy to hit it a second time ;-)

Great idea - here's another...
Mold a totally realistic mailbox and post out of lightweight rubber. When they take a full swing, the mailbox will immediately bend over, leaving the idiot with the bat to finish the swing by crushing his own windshield.

Or the bat bouncing back, and clobbering the guy swinging it!

My grandfather made his mailboxes out of cold rolled steel plate 3/8" IIRC then they were mounted on a sizable chunk of telephone pole with 2/3rds of it in the ground Don't recall him ever loosing a mail box and we did find more than one broken bat on the ground.

Your local gooberment will tell you that you can't use anything in the right of way of the road that is not breakaway capable. Most of them will tell you that with a wink.
Now, we've all dragged this thread about as far away from where it is supposed to be as we can...

sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread,

Its amazing how people think things have way more value when they still have the tags attached, its still the same item!

Pottery Barn - Ebay

Referring to a earlier post. He didn't sell! Wonder why? You would have thought it would have sold with all the stickers and the tags on it.
Wonder what happened?

Matt,
actually in the world of collectivity; having the tags does mean it's worth more. Watch antique road show. It has some interesting stuff on it but I've seen where having the tags or having the original packaging doubles (sometimes triples) the value of the item.
Look at "action figures" or Barbie collectibles, taking them out of the box devalues the item to almost nothing. So yes; having the tags is a huge deal to collectors. It's also a sign of the way the item was treated. If you were to buy something used; you would want to know what condition it is in. If it's been treated well then the value is worth more but you don't have nothing to go on except the sellers word. Have the tags or original packaging is a way to show just how careful that seller was with the item without having to rely on their word.
That's the other reason it is such a big deal. It's a visual confirmation that the item was respected and taken care of.
Incidentally it's been re listed.

Uhhh...maybe the price was too high? Let's see, $46.00 for the model PLUS $22.50 for shipping = $48.50 and the "reserve was not met".

Considering they were about $49 when new right before Christmas 2002...and $35 after Christmas it's too soon to expect much more than that IMO - it's not "collectible" yet.
