Doctor Box

In my trailer, I carry a plastic box that was originally meant for computer diskettes. In the box, I have small amounts of many different OTC medicines as well as a few doses of my prescriptions in case I forget to pack them or stay longer than intended.

In the plastic wrapper for our Sunday paper, there is almost always a sample of some kind, usually medical in nature. I have found these samples to be perfect for my Doctor Box. They are usually just one or two doses and quite small in size. Over the course of a year, I can pretty much stock the box.

Medicine/first aid box

John,
I spend anywhere from 25 to 35 days in the woods deer and turkey hunting not to mention the dove fields during that season. I have a first aid kit in my wife's Astrovan, my 2500hd and in my Excella. The kits in my 2500hd and Excella have over the counter meds such as aspirin, ibuprophen, sinus meds, Sucrets, etc. in addition to the first aid items like bandages, gauze pads, bandaids, alcohol pads, hydrogen peroxide, snake bite kit (although some don't recommend these anymore), triangular bandage and various antiseptics.

CPR/AED

Good for you John. I am a CPR/FA/AED Instructor and just finished teaching a class this afternoon in First Aid. I also carry an old urinal looking CPR resuscitation mask with valve in the trailer while keeping a flatter face shield in the glove compartment of the truck. I've taught CPR/FA since '79 and it's something handy to know.

Doctor Box

I should have said that my "Doctor Box" is in addition to a commercial first aid kit. The two rest side by side in an upper cabinet.

The "Doctor Box" is for the things that the first aid kit doesn't address, such as sore throats and the like. The samples I get are just the right size for this purpose.

John,
Since I may be as much as 20 miles from a Walmart while hunting, I try to keep over the counter meds that address things like sore throat, nasal drip and headaches from a cold and above all else, an anti-acid from some of the strange things the guys cook during our hunts. One fellow starts with oil in a skillet, add chopped onions and bell peppers, hashbrown potatoes, cajun smoked sausage sliced, then add jalapenos. Just as the firey hot concoction comes out of the pan, you add slices of cheese on top or you can grate cheddar cheese on top. That stuff is guaranteed to tear up your stomach therefore you better have plenty of Tums handy.

Heck, that is sissy food here in Texas! I used to buy jalopenos by the gallon till my wife made me quit using so much refrigerator space; now, I buy them by the pint with a reserve pint on the pantry shelf. I start the day by diceing them up and scrambling them in my breakfast eggs.

Good bedtime snack, tortilla with melted cheese and jalopenos.

John,
I was born and raised in Corpus Christi and will be there during Thanksgiving when I am not hunting in Beeville. I love Spanish omelets with plenty of hot salsa. I try not to eat them every weekend because you don't know who to believe about eggs and cholesteral anymore.
