Perhaps I'll put a sign in my window that explains what to do in case of being bitten by a poisonous snake.

It's either that or one that says "Uncle Bo is at it again. Don't go inside, no matter what you hear. Have gone for help."

How a thread dies:

It's a science on airforums

1) a thread or post involving some matter of security

2) a gun owner or owners discuss confidently proudly they carry

3) indignation from others bubbles to the surface

4) people then will rebuke those in camp#3

5) thread is then doomed for closure

Alarm in Airstream

Having been in the law enforcement business all my working life, I am not unnaturally paranoid. My 534 is protected by an alarm operating on door contact and PIR, as well as a wheel clamp, hitch lock and motor cycle locking chain. I also had a tracker system fitted, and CCTV watching both ends. Maybe all this is OTT, but then again,, my house is like Fort Knox as well! Come on scallies, bring it on!

Trying to drag this thread kicking and screaming back on topic…

My Airstream Interstate most definitely has an alarm system; it was burglarized a mere sixteen hours after I bought it, before I had a chance to install an alarm. The vile miscreant did over $3500 worth of damage just to steal a Kenwood head unit that quit working as soon as he disconnected it with a crowbar!

I had planned to get an alarm anyway, but this incident convinced me to get a better alarm system than originally planned, installed by the same company that installed the replacement Kenwood unit and at the same time.

Oh, and my insurance company paid out for repairing the damage with hardly a squawk of protest, even though the amount they paid out was over three times my first year's premium. As far as my insurance account is concerned, my insurance company has been in the red until next month, when my cumulative annual payments finally exceed what they paid out.

As far as I'm concerned, the alarm system is not protection; it's just an effective deterrent; the real protection is the insurance.

And a word to those who think a gun protects your Airstream, since the subject has already been broached… A gun doesn't protect your Airstream at all. It protects you while you're in your Airstream. But even in permissive states like Louisiana that have "blaze a burglar" laws that allow you to shoot in defense of your residence, that only applies if you're indoors when the miscreant breaks in. The gun doesn't protect your Airstream at all when you're not inside the Airstream.

Isn't that common knowledge?

Apparently not, given the number of people over the years on various threads who said that they carry a gun to protect their Airstream.

And lest anyone think I'm gun-bashing, I'm a life member of the NRA and fully support the right of private citizens to keep and bear arms. Or to keep and arm bears, which would also be pretty good protection…

Any 'protection' is and should be only about the safety of the occupants of the AS, not the AS itself.

That said, properly securing the AS, storing in a safe area, and keeping an eye on it regularly is what I do. Mine is parked at a trusted neighbor's RV pad inside a locked fence. Our neighborhood also has a security patrol that knows it's there.

Yes, the guns are there to protect the occupants. Common sense and insurance will protect the trailer.

Fortunately, I can store my trailer in my back yard, behind an 8-foot privacy fence. While there, it is continuously monitored. While travelling, we do have an alarm on the trailer for the times we are not near it. Otherwise, while at the trailer, it is monitored by me and my wife with several methods of foolishness..... I mean, personal protection. I have the utmost respect for my fellow human beings and would give someone the shirt off of my back if they were in need. However, I also realize that not everyone in this world "plays nice".
