The DIY Network TV show 'Classic Rides' starts next Friday (10/7/05). They will be featuring the restoration of a vintage Airstream over ten episodes. I posted the ten episode agenda and schedule here.
The show should provide some useful restoration tips for all of us Vintage Airstreams.
I had read in AL that this series was going to start this fall, thanks for the update. It will be interesting to see what the members of this forum think about the show. I think we all agree that the "While you were out" Airstream could not have been worse.

Based on the show agenda I'm anticipating some very good restoration info coming our way. i've watch other DIY restoration projects hosted by Kevin and the programs were well done.
Darn...no DIY network coverage in my area plus my TV set is old and doesn't go up that high in the channels (i.e., channel 180). Can someone create a "podcast" of this show? Is that allowed? Is it possible to do?

i plan on recording each of the episode with tivo. i will most likely archive them on dvd/video tape. check back with me in decmeber. i'd be happy to lend you my copy of the series.

OK the guy didn't mention the fact that it needs new axles (yet), and are those aluminum propane tanks? If they are and in good condition they can be fitted with OPD's and re-certified... They look like they might be steel, though...

Really giving GOOD useful information and taking it apart properly without destroying it.
It was great to see the AirstreamForum mentioned as well as Vintage Airtream.com
I know where I will be planted every Friday evening.
These folks are lurking here. They obviously have been researching here.
So when are you folks going identify yourself and say hello?
59toaster,
Look up the user classicrides. He told the forum what he was doing.

Airstream Life magazine got nice props as well. based on the description of the finished product i think this trailer will be a real looker.
i think most of the appliances had to go. they mentioned that they were replacing the ac. the AC looks like it was replaced recently. from the top side view you could see the area where the old unit sat. i tore out my old ac unit our of my '78 excella back in july. must have been fifty screws holding the old unit in. the new dometic unit was half the weight of the old.
The RV guy didn't get into poking the floor, but the host said they'd be replacing the flooring anyway. I think the RV guy was just a little bit replace-happy, like not mentioning that the aluminum (?) tanks could be tested and updated instead of being automatically replaced.
It always amazes me how much stuff comes OUT of an Airstream. It looks so compact when it's in there, but so huge when it's stacked on the floor.
I thought this was a very good effort, and it'll be interesting to see this play out in future episodes.
