Dishes plastic or crockery

This might be a stupid question, but....concerning dishes, I don't like plastic so will crockery travel ok? I'm into paper only as a back up. Any advice concerning transport of glasses, etc. would be appreciated. Thank you!

We travel with a set of Fiesta ware for special occasions. We have never had a problem with them. -Ray

Most Airstreamers use Corelle (a tempered glass and ceramic laminate) while a sizable minority use Melamine (a form of plastic). Both are shatter resistant enough that they do not require special packing while on the road.

Corelle is microwave safe and more resistant to knife cuts and abrasion.

Melamine is considerably lighter.

We use corelle for china, tervis tumblers for highballs and plastic juice glasses for wine. Because we're roughing it.

We use all glass. We're full-timing, and glass is necessary for me to feel like I'm living a somewhat normal life! We installed some small brackets (actually, they're cheap cabinet handles serving as brackets) with the dishes stacked in between. When we travel, we put liner in between each of the dishes, then velcro them all down to the brackets. They don't even budge. Glasses are in one of those linen-type storage boxes with a separate compartment for each glass.

We had our first coffee mug crack today, but that's because I dropped it when I was washing it! It could have just as easily happened in the stick house.

I use glass, too, and have them in a cardboard box I've made up with dividers between everything. So far so good, and glassware can be had cheaply. If there's a crash the mess will be contained and I can just replace it.
