Did you guys see the Airstream on the GAC channel show called Going RV?

The couple went to look at a fifth wheel, AS International Serenity and a class A. This is going to be first RV and are going to be full timers. I'll give you a hint which RV they choose - think smallish but full of quality, function and style. The same reasons I had when I chose my FC!

Wow, that's unusual. Most of those RV shows that I have seen show the Airstream first. The couple (or more often a family of 8) swoon a little and are generally complimentary. They tell them the price (the setup) and move on to the next one. They end up at the giant cardboard 5th wheel with 2 "fireplaces" and retractable TV that sleeps a baker's dozen. They ask them to guess the price and, of course, they guess outrageously high because of the AS price. When they hear the actual price the family goes wild!! I love those shows. I often wonder if AS pays them a fee to arrange it that way … so production can keep up.

The set up was strange and my wife commented that the sales rep did the couple an injustice by showing what he did. He showed them a 2015 Intl Serenity with an MSRP of $91k. The couple loved it but thought it was too small for full timing and was cost prohibitive so they asked the sales rep to see something bigger but still an AS. The rep found them a used 30 ft International for $59500 which I thought was a killer deal (almost too good to be true).

We had GAC on our previous DirecTV package- $113 per month- too high-
So we cut back to an $85 per month package- still too expensive- and no longer have GAC.
I wish I could convince my wife to get rid of DirecTV altogether.

If your contract is up, call them and threaten to quit. I did. They will cut rate substantially to get you to commit for another year. More to commit for two.

I called Comcast (we had them before) with every intention of quitting and they cut even more (so much that it actually made me angrier that they had been gouging me to that point) without any commitment. We quit Comcast anyway a few months later when we moved. Directv is much better but all are too much.

No GAC available from my cable provider. The network doesn't offer streams, either. I even emailed Flyte Camp and asked if they offered DVDs of show episodes, but no response. I guess I can live without it.

I can live without any of it- any amount of money for continuous re-runs, filth, garbage, and advertising the same thing on 5 channels is too much. They should let choose what you want to watch and charge $2 per channel. It might still be $80, but every channel would be something worthwhile that you actually want to watch.
We lost GAC after the first episode of "Flippin' RV's".

GAC is included with TWC's basic cable. Watched the show last night. I just knew they would pick an Airstream. By the way...full episodes of Flippin' RV's can be watched on YouTube.

That was us!

And we really did get our 30' for $59,000. And it was too good to be true, our original sales guy misquoted the price when we were at an RV show but stuck to his word.

Not to burst anyones bubble but in true 'house hunters' style, we already had our Airstream for a few months before we filmed the show. We've been on the road now for almost a year. But the show was a lot of fun, even if we did have to stretch the truth plus it paid for a month of living expenses.

I don't keep very up to date with our blog but there is a link to our Instagram feed on it which it up to date with our travels at wanderwasi.com

So cool that you guys are on this forum too! Congrats on the AS. You made out like bandits. I really thought you were going to end up in the class A. I didn't know that those shows are filmed after you've already made your decision. Good acting!

mhony, I'm with you: I haven't had TV for 2 yrs or more and I don't miss it. I only had it to watch Fox News anyway, and now I access that on my laptop, as well as AirForum and some other youtube stuff that I enjoy. I don't miss the expensive monthly charge, either! I would go for your idea of $2 per channel, though--that would be worth it, but that will never happen.

Vivian

I realize this is an old thread, but need something to do during the COVID-19 shutdown.
