Curious about forum user names
I am curious about the story behind some of the unusual user names on this forum. How did you come up with your user name?
I'll start with my name, "yukionna". "Yukionna" is Japanese for "snow maiden". I came across this term when I was studying Japanese a few years ago. I started using it for a user name because I consider myself a "snow maiden" because I enjoy participating in winter sports -- especially skiing (down & cross) and snowshoeing.

Mine is a combination of sorts.
When I moved to Florida while in high between my Junior and Senior year I was called the new kid in many of my classes. This is also because I have a very long last name. When it came time for the senior year class jersey I had thenewkid as my name on the back, most of us used nicknames. The number was 64 because it was the year I was born. It was also the number I was assigned when I played football.

I have been a Star Trek fan for 30+ years. When I first got into Yahoo I asked for Startrekker and it came back as already used and offered Startrekker2001 as an alternative. It was so cool that I use it everywhere.
On AOL I use Sol3classm which any good Star Trek afficionado knows is the definition of Earth. SOL3, third rock from the sun and Class M is the type of planet Earth is, Oxygen, Nitrogen atmosphere which supports flora and fauna.

Live long and prosper, startreckker2001!
My user name is just my name, much abbreviated. Though it seems silly now, back in the early 90s when I first joined AOL we were limited to 10 characters. Once I started using it, I was stuck with it as that was how everyone knew me on the Mustang forums and other places I hung out. I'm so jealous now when I see AOL'rs with unlimited characters in their usernames!

I'll give you three guesses and the first two don’t count!
It was a given after we started calling the camper the silvertwinky. I wanted to use a little different spelling so that’s the reason for the “y.”
I’ve used this name on other forums such as yahoo where I enjoy playing chess on occasions.

I was given the CB handle "Grape Picker", because I used to operate a mechanical grape harvester in the fall every year. Most of the grapes went to Welches and Coca Cola (Hi-C Grape drink).
My friends shortened it to "Pick".

Longtime User Name for me
I was on AOL from its inception and had to select a working name of AFL MacArt. When they finally allowed up to 5 user names I wanted to convert to my first name of David for off-time personal use only the chief AOL programmer beat me to it. I had an aversion for default names with numbers like David1. So I selected a name to reflect my English/Welsh heritage--Davydd. It is an Anglicized version of the Welsh Dafydd. There is no "v" in the Welsh alphabet. The double dd is pronounced similar to th. Sharon Kay Penman used the name Davydd in her historical novels. You can get me by that name on AOL and .Mac today. But don't bother to try to reach me on AOL. I check my email there once in a blue moon.
:::my first message on the new 15" Mac Powerbook--it goes so well with an Airstream with its new aluminum skin:::

Mine was the personalized license plate on my 1987 345 when I purchased it -- I loved it so I kept it and it became the name I always use.
