The point: silliness and sex will break out no matter what anyone does.

A non-point: A friend had a "fart machine" which made the noises Dan talks about except not on an iPhone; we were all very, very glad when the batteries ran down.

Actually, that heavy orange bedspread is one of my favourite things about the FAN. It is very well made and keeps me very warm. The lighter bedspreads end up around my ears (I'm a restless sleeper). The FAN bedspread, with its tailored corners, stays put.

Also love the orange colour. I never thought much about orange for an interior accent before, but the AS designers made a very good choice. There is something very cheerful about it. It grows on you. I love that pop of colour everytime I go into the bedroom (or when I'm sitting at dinette looking into bedroom). I think I like it because it reminds me of happy things during those formative years: Halloween pumpkins, orange popsicles, mom's tangerine-orange kitchen nook, and those mandarin oranges at Christmas.

Now, I'll just have to find more spandex leggings....in orange.

Just my 2 cents: The thread started out kind of funny with some creative use of the double entendre, as well as just some funny bits about the logistics of romance in a travel trailer. After a while though, it wasn't really funny anymore, just lewd.

I think if it had been kept a bit more highbrow, the thread would been shorter, and more enjoyable. I stopped reading after a while just because it wasn't funny anymore. Any middle school kid can make a lewd joke, but it takes some intelligence to make ironic, or subtle joke that lends to a higher form of humor. At some point, I felt like the thread was just digressing more and more and people were going to feel free to add pornographic material. I doubt the owner of airforums, or the moderators would want this site reclassified as an 18+ site.

If you want to stand up a sex-in-trailers website, I'm sure you'll be able to garner a following, as well as probably generate revenue through adds. True, you don't have to read a link if you don't want to, but there is a certain amount of respect you need to give to the moderator and the owner of a site. He created the site to help people to connect and help them with their trailers. A thread like that cheapens his work. Whether or not you think so, you were molesting his creation, his site. I'm glad the moderators have standards, and feel better about directing friends to this site because the content is helpful. This isn't about free speech, it's about self control.

I love you guys, and enjoy the forums and all the open experiences and friendship. I look forward to pulling my 64 out to a rally at some point in the future and meeting you in person. However, as the husband of a very actractive woman, I will be watching a few of you rather closely.....

I believe that the problem is that Airforums has a moderation strategy that involves deleting posts that are genuine violations of TOS, then locking threads that draw such posts, then posting a non-explanation as was done initially here. Eventually enough posts from people who saw the original problem material, explanations from other mods, and so on show up so that it's possible to piece together what happened.

So we now know that the mods were tolerating the thread, then someone posted something really gross that included images or links or something, and so the mods deleted the problem material and closed the thread without explanation. Why did they have to close the thread? Well, because some of them never liked it in the first place and they decided that the discussion had kinda deteriorated and it was a lot less work to close the thread than to continue to police it.

It's a poor moderation strategy that isn't respectful of community, because it's a slap in the face to Fly At Night and the many people who thought that it was harmless fun, and who followed the rules with their posts.

This is not a problem that's limited to the "sex in an Airstream" thread.

You'll know that Airforums has jumped the shark if this thread now gets locked because I've dared to be criticize the site team. Nothing to see here, move along, fnord fnord fnord.

This is a big leap and inaccurate. Closing a thread is something we don't do lightly and it almost always is MORE work not less, than just letting something run it's course. The site team is tasked to maintain the community as specified in our community rules; these are the very same rules that each member agreed to when they joined. Frankly we often let stand some content that might otherwise be removed in the hope a discussion that has veered off course will right itself and we can just move on without mod intervention. This unfortunately was not the case in the sex in an airstream thread.

Respect is a two way arrangement and you are ASSUMING that all posters followed the rules. This is not the case but the site team is not going to discuss the particulars of any one members posts or moderator interactions regarding those posts in a public venue. This is private and between an individual member and the moderator involved; we work hard to respect each members privacy.

I encourage you to read our community rules - all of them. This one in particular has been stretched substantially in the last 24 hours:

Quote:
Public discussion about moderation or moderator decisions is not allowed. If a moderator deletes or edits one of your posts and you disagree with the action, contact the moderator concerned. Do not repost deleted material.
We had hoped that this thread might help members understand a bit about how decisions are made but it is becoming a distraction from the intent and topic of the forum - Airstreams.

Again from the CR's:

Quote:
This is a community of individuals who share a common interest in Airstream trailers and motorhomes. Please think before you post and keep your comments limited to the topic at hand and above all be nice.
I guess we each have a different idea of what 'Nice" is.

So, basically, when we signed up for the forums, we agreed to follow the terms of service, whether we bothered to read them or not. The terms of service say that we agree to censor our own posts, or the moderators will do it for us by taking approriate action, ranging from locking the thread to banning the offender. Sounds like a contract to me, and no fault to the moderators who are acting to uphold their end of the contract when we let down our end of it.

We have all contractually agreed to place reasonable limits on our freedom of speech in exchange for the privilege to post on this forum. As I see it, as long as we don't say anything that we wouldn't say in front of an impressionable child, there should be no problem. And considering that some AirForum members may have computer-literate but impressionable children or grandchildren who can read the Forums, that's not an unreasonable limitation.

I need some clarification. Is it OK to have "sex in an airstream" but you can't talk about it? Or if you are a member of this board have they locked you out from having sex in an airstream?

You see, we have yet to buy one and the answer to that question might go a long way towards what brand we buy?

OK. I'm tossing my two cents in...

I think the only real frustration is the perceived capricious nature of what gets redacted.

IMHO, some of the shamelessly ignorant posts, like recommending a newbie locate an LP leak with a match, is far more offensive than some-- as Crawford' so elegantly put it, "fart joke" thread.

AFA following the TOS "be nice" rule, a true Airstreamer is one who never hurts anyone's feelings unintentionally.

Darn, I do not know what I missed towards "the end" of Sex...., But it must have been good. Being one who did post in the Sex.... thread at the beginning, this is to express my opposition to censorship because of a few having to much fun.

Oh please, spare us the pontification.

You made your feelings known in the original "sex" thread, then sulkily said you were leaving the forums for good.

But if it will make you happy - you won!

Fait accompli!

Now, will you just leave this thread? Matter of fact, I would prefer if you do not visit/revisit any of my threads.

Thank-you so very much, sir!

This thread is sort of like that lame frat house party that everyone wanders into because the cops closed the bar...

Well, I think it may have been my post that was the last straw. The post had a link to an article that was covered by just about every major newspaper in the world. If you Google -- bmw corbin lawsuit -- you'll find the article. I then made a comment relating it to the discussion at hand...

Sorry fellow Streamers...
