Can you ID this one?

I might be "rescuing" this one very shortly. The owner has misplaced the title and doesn't know the year or model. These are the pics he sent to me. Any educated guesses on the ID?

My guess is that it is between a 1960 and 1962 Overlander (with optional tandem axles) or possibly an Ambassador. It appears to have had some significant modification - - at least two of the windows appear to be non-original, and there appear to be two patch panels that have been applied.

If it is any early 1960s model, it should have an identification plate to the right of the entrance door that will have the VIN.

After checking a little further, I am thinking that it may be a little newer than I first thought - - either 1962 or 1963 - - the style door on the storage compartment rules out 1964 or 1965, and the lack of a defined kick-up in the center of the wheel-opening tend to suggest that it isn't a 1960-1962.

I would still be torn between Overlander and Ambassador for model.

Seems like it has 5 crown pieces (based on the little I can see) which would mean 1965 or later, right?

And yet... it's the old wedding-style taillights, not the boxy aluminum ones set further apart. Weird... Frankenstream?

There are three clues that make me think that this is either a 1962 or 1963 coach. The bumper is of a style that was discontinued after 1963 on the tandem axle coaches (it may have been used on some of the smaller single axle coaches beyond 1963) - - the later bumpers (post-1964) were mounted farther from the body to accommodate the storage compartment for the electric cable and sewer hose. The storage compartment door is of a design that was utilized prior to 1963 (usually indicated a coach that predated the one-stop-service-compartment that would have been found on '64 and later coaches). The coach also does not appear to have the belt-line moldings that began appearing with the '65 models.

The one thing on this coach that keeps bothering me is the shape of the wheel opening - - it is difficult to tell whether it is horizontal or sloped due to camera angle - - if it is horizonatal, I would stand by 1962 or 1963, but if it is actually sloped, I am beginning to think that it might possibly be a 1958 Ambassador (based on the '58 Sovereign pictured in the link below, it may even have original size mis-matched windows on the curbside).

Based on the photos on the VintageAirstream archives site, I wouldn't think that is could be a '59 through '61 based on the shape of the wheel opening. It could be a '57, but the windows don't appear to have the obvious center supports that can be seen in the photos of the 1957 and immediately preceeding years.

To me it looks like there is no window in some of the openings. Cann't really see how many sections on end but looks like 7 or 5, not 13. It looks alot like my 59 overlander but the wheel well is all wrong. Maybe an exterior panel replaced along the way? In any case I would want alot more pictures. With its ramped wheel wells and adjacent different size Hehr Standard windows in the bedroom, it looks like the top 1957 Overlander seen here on RJ's web site:

It's early, but I'm wondering if it's something west coast that is a close relative of the Airstream. A Wright or possibly an early Avion? It's a puzzlement. Let us know what you find out. And if you're looking to rescue Airstreams I've got two in Va. Beach just crying out for come TLC.

The first is an Overlander Land Yacht, the numbers I got were D56 CD and
I27-D4J-2614. It's been sitting in this lady's yard for 20 years. The shell looks pretty good considering. She always wanted to camp, but is also maintaining an old house, several horses, bantam chickens and at least one Guinea fowl. The woman gave me her first name and her phone number. I don't have her permission to give it out, but if you'd like to call me I'll try to arrange an exchange of numbers.

The second one is at Indian Cove Resort - where I'm camped. It has a for sale sign on it. Vern Townsend & I looked it over. It's a 72 Sovereign, 31 ft I think. There is some tail droop but not pronounced. The axles are pretty far gone, but the skin is in good condition for it's age. All of the glass appears to be original, including the two small front side windows (not what I'd call vista views, but I think they're nearly impossible to find). Vern thought someone could make money by parting it out even if they didn't want to restore it, based on the heavy door hinge, the windows, the running lights, porch lights, etc. The interior is all there but doesn't look to be in pristine condition. The owner's name is Mr. Strobel and he can be reached at (703) 437-7665. I talked to him last year and I think he's prepared to be very flexible.

I'll try to grab a digital camera and take pictures if anyone is interested.

The trailer is 80 miles from me. My plan is to go inspect it on Saturday. It's obviously in sad shape but the price is low enough to make it hard to walk away from.
Owner says the interior is a mess but all intact. I generally only rescue trailers that are nearby. Rambo (my '66 Ambassador gunship) was wasting away in a storage yard 90 miles away. I've bought other trailers within 30 miles.
I suspect that this one might be a '57 Overlander as Kevin and Fred suggested but I'll post the ID when I find it.

Michigan requires that a title must be produced if the vehicle ever had one. Otherwise, a certified bill of sale and a visit to the local weigh station will suffice.

My vote is for a California made '58 Overlander. Square channel bumper, sloping wheel wells, Airstream emblem under window, seven panels, split rims, pre-ClearView Hehr windows. All tell-tail signs. Wonder what the other side looks like if this is the side he's using to promote the sale of this trailer.

PaulaFord, according to the Airstream corporate website, this is 27' 1974 Overlander, rear bath, double bed with International trim package, serial No. 2614. I'm reworking a '73 like it right now. Wish I could come and get this one!

I looked it over today. It has leaf spring suspension. The only etchings on the plaque by the door are the numbers "6926", so maybe it's a custom built 1956?.
It was more of a project than I'm ready to tackle right now. 4 windows are cracked or broken, The front 1/3 of the floor needs replacement,some interior hardware is missing and a coat of paint has been slapped over all of the zolotone and the cabinets.
It did have some redeeming features such as 4 baby moons, unbroken original door handle and fairly clean appliances which, in the owners words "just might work".
It has been in service as a storage shed for many years.
The owner was asking "approximately $1,000" but I think it would be sitting in my yard right now if I had offered $750.
It's in New Baltimore, Michigan. If anyone has interest, PM me for contact info. I snapped some pics of the interior.
