Can this be repaired for $5K?
Check out this 2004 CCD 19' Airstream that apparently rolled off the transportation trailer.

I'm guessing $18,000 to buy the needed parts. Maybe more, depending upon what interior cabinets were destroyed. And about 250 hours of labor.
Do I win the pool?

Love how he says it tows great and there is no frame damage...excuse me? But I would strongly question that until I actually had meaurements to prove it...Pretty serious project, I would rather do a full monty on a 31' before tackling something like that.

$5k, no problem...nothing a little duct tape and some plastic covers couldn't fix.
Also, I didn't think these were put on trailers to be able to "roll" off. I thought that they were physically towed to dealerships, etc (one tow vehicle/one trailer).

Imagine, for only the investment of 25% of a new one, you can have this never to be correct Bambi. I can't decide what number will be higher, the parts that you could resale or their reserve amount. Hmmm.

That begs another question...
What's it really worth?
Somebody on the courtesy inspection list could go look at it. When it doesn't sell for his reserve price make an offer.
It's a good start for an aluminum foil ball...

Any bets?
Any bets on the reserve price of this unit?
I notice he keeps referring to '1/4 the price of a new one' and includes repairs in that equation. Which he figures at $5600. (His price will go up substantially once he finds out how it all falls apart like a house of cards after removing the interior skin-just drill out rivets, removes the outer skin- just drill out rivets, and then remove any damaged ribs, and replace all! Really begins to sound like a plan.... remove, remove, remove, replace.
Now, he keeps talking about $45,000 for a new one.... one quarter of that would be let's see... um, $11,250? Less the $5600 he figures as repair costs, means the reserve must be up around $5650?
Okay, I put a buck in the pot, and claim a reserve price of $5000!

I just looked at the slide show. It might be too much even for campcollector...

Elizabeth,we will have to wait to see if your right, those are the same numbers I came up with. Now I'll sit and ponder if the salvaged parts are worth that when its time to pull them off. jeff

I saw that one a couple days ago. Notice how the panels are rippled down the side all the way to the back - look at how the door fits - yeah, that's an easy fixer-upper! Just pound it back into shape, less than $6k and you'll be camping again! Says someone who's never done it before! I think I'll stick with the Caravel, thank you very much
On Edit - Wait, wait I went and looked at it again. Here's my favorite part

For a ¼ of the new price of the Airstream it can be restored or you can hammer the structure into shape and waterproof the front window and be done

you have to wonder - is the guy trying to pawn it off the same guy that dropped it off the transport. I also have to wonder about his claims about the price for a new one, a friend of mine bought a new 22' CCD back in November new for 32,000 out the door and it had some extras like the the entertainment package.

Figure $1k per pannel. 5 in the front 3 on the roof and might be able to retain the sides and it needs new ribs in at least half the coach. Thats before we even get into the interior
Its worth about $2k if all the appliances and systems survived. Parting could pull a little more. Its probably worth about $500 in aluminum.

Wonder what the insurance company decided? Total loss?
Here, for your viewing ease, I captured a couple of the pics... eBay is soooo slow.

As you can see I'm still looking. This damage is clearly the result of too much trailer and not enough truck and hitch! LOL

I'd think the most I'd pay for that would be about $2,000, primarily for the water heater, furnace, maybe air-conditioner, and other parts. If I had a place out in the country, I might even keep the body and chassis for spare parts for anyone needing rear body panels down the road, but otherwise would sell it as scrap metal.

Reserve met at $4,999.99!
How exciting, just a few simple repairs @$10/hr and on the road you go.
I am always suspicious when I see an extraordinary breakout bid by a very low feedback bidder. So far, the highest fully credible bidder dropped out at $1700. Looking for any other trace of shilling, it appears the seller does not have any obviously hinky transactions in his record, which is good. High bidder and seller neither give a location in their profile, which is inconclusive of anything. Straining at gnats, the style of usernames is somewhat similar. Overall, just not enough to draw a negative conclusion.
On modern ebay frequently nothing really happens until the last 10 seconds, so I will be interested to see how this all turns out.
